Fidget Spinners & Game Shakers at Super League City Champs

Hey guys, it is Audrey Cleo. Their jerseys are on and they are ready to play some serious Minecraft. The LA Shockwaves face off against teams in Seattle, San Francisco, and the Cloud as part of Super League Gaming's City Champs. And who better to take us inside the tournament than YouTube Gaming personality Captain Sparkles. Now teams across the country are also competing and the top four will be headed to play in the grand finals to win it all. Nice to see you.

This event has changed so much. Super League Gaming has changed so much since the last time we talked. Here with me now, YouTube Gaming celebrity, is that fair?

Yes. Maybe. Sure. We can go with that.

Well, I what's it like seeing this grow?

Yeah, it's very cool. So before it was just like one-off events with kids coming into player rotation of games in theaters on Minecraft. Now there's an actual league with teams based in different cities, the Minecraft City Champs. I guess video games have definitely made their way more into the mainstream and it's it's fun to see.

So when he does it on a pretty regular basis. Look who I found from Nickelodeon's The Game Shakers. Benji, Tom. What's up?

But you guys are on a show that centers on video games as well.

Okay. Okay. Well, let's check out some of the players. Um I'm I'm super excited to see what they're doing. So who are you guys playing right now?

Um we are playing San Francisco. Um I think Seattle, I'm pretty sure. And um the virtual storm.

Did you guys win the Mayhem?

Uh yeah, we did. We got 4,000 points for LA.

And how many points was second place?

About 1,300.

Okay, so they just completely demolish the second place team, which is pretty cool. Oh, by the way, can we talk about this for a second because Captain Sparkles got me started on this stuff. Oh my gosh, I don't know what beast you've unleashed in me, but this thing. For the first time ever my mom is the first person to have told me what it was. She sent me an a text message saying, have you ever heard of a fidget spinner? I was like, what? What is that? How do you do that? You just go, I mean, I'm not even the best at it. Benji's the best at it. but you just go like that and it just balances on your finger. Okay. So when you're inside, they're watching everybody play. Like what is there anything that surprised you about what's going on in there?

Um, probably how focused the kids are. They're very focused. That like it wasn't like like we were interviewing them a little bit and they were like very focused about how they're going to play the game and they were playing the game and they're very focused like when we were on stage we were doing a pre-workout thing. And they were like, guys, the game's starting and we had to respect that. So, you know.

Yeah. With David Sigel Fest, co-founder of Super League Gaming, where do you see e-sports going in the future?

The educational and stem benefits of Minecraft are are obvious and and sort of well documented. And so we see um after school programs enhancing where, you know, the theater activity is something that they the kids uh achieve, they culminate to by you know, maybe even interscholastic competition.
