I'm here at the Young Hollywood studio with the phenomenon that is Cody Simpson. How are you?

I'm good. How are you?

I'm good. And I say that because I just heard that you've got a doll or an action figure. We call it an action figure. We call it an action figure. So how does that feel?

I don't like the name doll. It doesn't it doesn't suit it, no. I'll take anything to be honest. I'd be glad to have a doll, an action figure, a teddy bear. It's pretty it's really, really great. Yeah, just came out and you know to see like this little miniature plastic version of me. It's it's strange.

And this is all like, I mean, you're so young, 14.

Yes.

Which makes me feel extremely old.

Yeah, two two years ago, I um, I posted a video online. I think it was, you know, at the end of 2008. I was 11. I wasn't even 12 yet. I'd sung this this song, this Jason Mraz song at a school talent show and we put it online. Um, you know, I hadn't had any this was my first ever live performance and I had I was sitting there on my guitar singing this song.

Getting. Me and Cody are now best mates. That instantly made us best friends. Cuz we're farm. Just us cuz we're both immigrants.

Both immigrants. Yeah, saying that. So how's the move to Los Angeles? You've been here a year and a half now.

Yeah, been here a year and a half. Um, moved with my family a year and a half ago and uh it's great. It's different, you know. I guess I'm my favorite city in the world is always gonna be home. Right. I'm back in Australia, but I really really enjoy it, you know, it's it's a um, jet set of life, you know.

And now your your music at the moment, Coast to Coast is your latest hit that's out.

Yes.

And you're working on a new record.

Yeah, so um, Coast to Coast was a six-song EP, you know, we wanted to put out. We wanted to keep the music out there, you know, we had a bunch of great songs, so started working on my first um, full length album and uh, you know, we've cut about three or four tracks so far, you know, we've we've only been here for a few days, but um,

And you're going straight to the studio after this, right?

Yeah, exactly.

And I I see like you're quite an impressive dancer.

Oh, I'm getting there.

Do you do you call out something like

Never had a dance lesson in my life. Really? No. Funny story actually, I was 11 years old, it was I was turning 11. It was my birthday. Um, and uh, it was sort of, you know, my first sort of like real like party with my friends and stuff. And, you know, we had like a strobe light and we had some some music and all that kind of stuff. And we turned it real loud and I started dancing. I'd never danced in my life. My my my mom and dad came in, you know, my friends were all looking at me and they're like, what is this kid doing? Like, it's really really cool. And it's something that I discovered in myself that night too. And then, you know, I guess when I came here and it sort of I guess reminded me to do that and um, it was something that I could use in my show. I I decided to put him in and work with a choreographer and stuff, so.

I didn't know what Thanksgiving was. I had my first one last year. We went to a friend's place and just ate a bunch of food.

And I got really sick.

What's on your Christmas list? Um, one gift if you could get it.

One gift. Oh. I'd fly my best friends over to the States and we'd go to the Bahamas.

And you're quite an impressive swimmer, I read as well.

Yes. I was actually Australian champion for for my age, you know, since I was like 10. Haven't really had the chance to in like a year now.

There's ocean nearby. Just go and jump in it. We speak to we speak to your team. We'll get you an hour off before you go to the studio. You go jump in the ocean. Can we do that?

No, they said no. They said no.

It's tough times when you're 14-year-old star.

Well, there's sharks as well, so I wouldn't suggest it.

Not scared of sharks. Are you?

Well, being from Australia, you wouldn't be.

Well, I don't know, like I've been at the beach my whole life. That's how I grew up near the beach. You're not scared of a shark until one eats you. So then therefore you're never really scared of sharks.

I could look at it that way.
