Real Talk & Innuendos with Anne Heche
About this video
When Anne Heche stops by the Studio to scoop us on her indie flick 'That's What She Said', the double-entendres fly and the censor button gets a workout! The unconventional actress tells us what it was like on set with the film's bawdy director, Carrie Preston, and she also talks a bit about her line of sunblock for kids, Tickle Time, which can be applied without the aid of creams. (...that's what she said.) Hosted by Nikki Novak (@nikkinovak).

Hi, I'm Ann H. and we're here talking about that's what she said. Get ready for some real girl talk.
Exactly. I am ear. I'm ear. I am ear. I am ear as well. Ann is ear. I am totally ear. Ear. With the gorgeous Ann H.
Oh, that's nice.
Looking absolutely stunning. The dress. I'm feeling very under-dressed.
If I knew how cool you guys were gonna be, all set up in here with the Young Hollywood, I wouldn't have dressed like an old lady. Do I look like a lady?
You were showing us. Wait. Did I just I just read somewhere that you said you were retiring mini skirts. And look at your legs. Why would you ever No. You are showing us your legs.
This isn't a mini skirt. And who said that? I have no idea. I'm misquoted constantly. You are completely misquoted. It's all about the intense things I'm talking about obviously like mini skirts. But you know what? I started playing tennis and you get to wear a mini skirt all the time. It's just a ladies' way of wearing a mini.
You know what's great about cuz I play tennis too.
You do. You can get away with the mini skirt flying up and being like oops. Oh, for sure. I'm bending over all the time in a mini skirt. Just to make James crazy. No totally. I'm at the club all like, "Excuse me! That's my ball."
Is that a-
The guy's like, "Oh my God."
There's something about tennis that's very sexy.
Oh, I mean, is it all the balls?
That's what she said.
That's what she said.
I think we should each like have a shot or do something fun every time we make one of those innuendos during this interview. Okay. Absolutely. Speaking of innuendos, your director, Carrie Preston. We talked to her at Sundance.
Yeah. She's dirty.
Is she? She's really nasty. We'll behind your shoulder, there's a monitor and we have a little clip, a little innuendo that Carrie might've.
What? Said. Oh, God. She's so nasty. Well, you just turn anything into some kind of innuendo. Okay. Let's try something. He looks so cute.
Thanks. So ask me how my flight was yesterday.
How was your flight here yesterday, Carrie? Well, it was long and hard. But um, I was really happy when I finally came. It's wrong. It's nasty. But That's what she said.
Love her. I'm gonna. She's so cool. So. She has a lot dirtier ones than that. I think we had to cut a lot of stuff out of that actually. Like, come on. You go like, you know, if she's gonna go with, "How was your trip over here?" "Oh, God. It was bouncy. It was really really really bouncy. And and I I had such a like great ride."
That's what she said.
That's what she said.
So, was there a lot of this going on on set?
There was Constantly. Annoyingly constantly. No, it's anything right. Because well, first of all, we were cracking each up each other up all the time. I'm ear. Um I we can't even talk. It went on and on. That's what she said. It just becomes when the day begins that way. It doesn't ever stop. And women can just keep going. No. It's Yes. Exactly. Take after take after take.
So, well, we had Alia in here. She's dirty too. I mean,
Is she? Was that a pre-requisite for this? Be dirty?
Yeah.
I mean, I thought it was being talented but clearly not. I mean, just not when you talk about the trash that we are. Um, no. Obviously, it's just anybody who can make a bad lame joke about sex. And if it came, you know. No. What did he do? He filed his nails. No. No. He Had a seizure. What is she doing? She's trying to say that he That could be the problem right there.
Well, let's talk about we wanna play a little game called that's what Ann said.
Oh, God.
And we wanted to bring up so because there's so many scenarios in this film. And we wanted to get your thoughts on if these things were to happen in real life.
Oh, no. A friend gets a terrible. I'm a mother, remember?
Yes, you are. Yes, you are. This will not be safe around my kids. A friend gets a terrible haircut. This one's clean. A friend gets a terrible haircut. Do you tell her? Are you honest?
Oh, totally. No, you gotta be like, "That sucks." "Honey, you are not walking out like that."
So, you tell. Yes. Absolutely. So, you don't even tell them gently. You just. Oh, sweetie. Put it out there. Your hair looks great by the way. Let me bring in too. I look like don't you think I deserve to be on Days of our Lives or something? Don't I look.
Well, you didn't you you did soaps way way back in the day.
I did. And today I definitely feel like I should be back on them. I don't know if it's trash talking about a movie I just did where I'm a garbage can mouth. Or if it's that I'm wearing like purple lace and have more curls in my hair than anybody should have for an entire year. I I just turned in my cool card. At least I don't have cutlets in. I mean, that would be really sloppy.
Well, that brings up another scenario in the movie. The push-up bra, like the first date clothing. Yes or no?
I don't know. Like, you have to describe the guy. And then the guy does he like cutlets? I mean, does he like the fake kind of, you know, uppity girl? Or does he like, you know.
Well, that's the thing. You have to worry because if there's a push-up bra and then maybe he's gonna feel that there's a.
Well, we've already talked about this off camera. But if you stick those things on in a way that's like good for you but not good for the guy and then he's lucky enough to get to second base and then he feel It's a little bit like. Are you wearing a ball cap? You know.
Okay. Cooling off period after a breakup. Cuz your character is still obsessed with her ex after three years. Just get right on in there. Why wallow? Okay. I feel like I I feel like I know the answer to this one. Coffee shop talk. Is it okay to have loud public discussions about feminine hygiene?
Oh. Cuz it just feels so good, right? Well, it's coming out of your mouth, yes. If it's coming out of like a truck driver with a mustache woman then no. You know, you it's also like whose mouth is it coming out of. Right.
I think Ann and I need to hang out a little bit more. I have a feeling things would turn around in my world. Honestly. Very very quickly. Where's a shot? Break it on. We do have a full service bar here. So, speaking of that's what she said, I wanna talk about Tickle Time. Tickle Time is a mineral sunblock developed for kids so that they don't have to scream and whine and cry when they go out of the house. Which they're not doing because I torture them. They're doing it because sunblock is horrible. It's a pain in the butt. It's really simple. You're not gonna be able to block out the sun. That's how easy it is. And it blocks out the sun for the whole day. And this is why you have amazing skin.
Well, it is my mantra. It has been. You know, you go on camera and now on camera everything is digital so they see like everything. Everything. Um but it's kind of the most important thing to do for your skin. So, you wanna take that out of, you know, even a kid's system. Give them something fun to do. So they're protecting themselves.
And you helped develop this, right?
I did. Yeah, I developed it.
That's fantastic. So, there you go.
First of all, people ask the silliest questions which you can imagine especially when you have a product called Tickle Time. Um, well, it's safe for your kids. Can I use it on myself? No. You can only use it on your kids. Cuz I give my kids something terrible to put on their skin. You can't use it on yourself. Like yes, of course you can. It's and it's really funny because now women who are discovering it are really having a good time putting it on.
Thank you, Ann, for coming in. This was an absolute pleasure. We're hanging out. We're going to the bar afterwards. Awesome.
