N's guy for the drones, this neighborhood of clones. I'm looking at the crowd and they're staring at their phones. They groom the coastline here, it's starting to disappear. And maybe once a year, I think the green my car. I call my reflection. I dropped the call. I've been medicating with cigarettes and alcohol. I got blurred no, I can't see straight.

We're just we're just talking about Nashville and that we might take over his place in Nashville and make our studio there. A pop-up studio. We were just we were just chatting. That's what you're saying. That's right. That's what's going on. You apparently have the best view of the city.

I love my view. I think it's just right for your.

We'll take over the bathroom, put a control room in there. You know, that's just how we do things at your.

That's right. I'd like to hear I'd like to set up in there. It works.

Yeah, the one bathroom, the one bathroom here is their control room. It's good. You can you can do that to my house. All right. We're we're taking you up on that offer so. you heard it here first. Let's do it. So, you just did an awesome performance. You've got your new single that just came out that you're about to release.

Yes. We uh best ever had. Yes, exactly. We uh we put uh Best Ever Had out about, I want to say about six or seven weeks ago. Um, while we were on tour with with Train and The Script and we had a great summer tour together. Great group of people, wonderful bands. Um, and uh it was a really it was really the right cross section of audience to to perform to. Um, to get the song, you know, up and up and running. So it's it's been really helpful.

you was a. not the coda. I think I love you but don't even know. Hey, Massachusetts in Minnesota. I think I love you but don't even know you. Hey Carolina. Hey, Oklahoma. I think I love you but don't even know you. Hey Alabama. Hey California. I think I love you but don't even know you. You're the best I ever had.

So what would you say like what's your inspiration for writing that song? Because your your last album Sweeter is very, you know, sexual and vulnerable and you sort of just like lay it all out there of all your raw emotions. So, what do you what do you draw on for all that?

Um this particular album I think didn't necessarily deviate so far away from that type of thing. Still, you know. Still sexual. Of course, but um but this particular single is really grabbing hold of uh of what had been initiated about a year or so ago or two years ago with groups like Mumford and Lumineers with the tapping into that classic Americana sound.

America. I felt algebra and I'm miss you some times. We're at war again. Say the world again. You can all join in but you can't smoke inside you.

So, how would you say, you know, how have you evolved as an artist and a person? Your sound has changed like you said.

The sound definitely has has taken different shapes. Um, you know, I think I think it's important uh as an artist to to remember when you're making albums that there are certain things that you want to hold on to. You want to hold on to the audience you've developed. And at the same time, there are certain things that you have to do artistically which is which is evolve. You have to evolve. Um, you can't repeatedly make the same album over and over again because if you do that, your audience is going to grow bored with you. You know. Even if they know Well, I don't know how we can grow bored with you, but I promise you, you can grow bored with me. believe me. Um, but I think that if you continually put out the same type of of art, if it's too similar, then someone will say, oh if you have one Gavin DeGraw album, you have them all. So all you need is one and here's the one to get. You know what I mean? And I think that and I think that that's a really it's a really terrible um that's a terrible reputation to have as an artist. Um whereas I think that there's been artists who've made lots of different types of records and that's why you're always curious to see what the next one was going to be and that's why you wanted to buy um all of their stuff because it was it it was uh changing shape and it was an experiment. Um, you know, when you had, you know, old school artists like The Beatles or or Stevie Wonder or David Bowie or Madonna, you had all of these different um attempts at art by the same the by the same artist, you know.

And I sit down at a table set for you. And finally, I must face to no matter what to say, I'm not over you. Hey.

Um, you know, when you're making albums and you're making music, you're never really sure which direction your career is going to go at any point, you know. There's just no telling, there's no there's no um, there's no guarantee and there's no perfect recipe and there's no there's no way to predict it all, but it's

Yeah, but that's the fun part about it, though. Exactly.

And that's the thing that keeps you playing the lottery, you know what I mean? And it's it's fun. There's a certain um there's a certain Las Vegas ness about it, you know what I mean? You may come home a winner. We'll take.
