What would be Thresh's theme song when he enters the arena?
All I do is win, win, win, no matter what.
What's up, guys? Niki Novak here in the Young Hollywood studio with The Hunger Games star, Dayo Okeniyi. How did I do?
You did really good. Really, really good.
So, The Hunger Games.
Yes.
I heard, okay, this never happens, that you you signed with a manager, and on your first audition, you book The Hunger Games.
Yes, this is true.
Woo! So, your character, you're kind of like you've been described as like a gentle giant. Like, you're the the strongest and sort of.
True.
So, um, first of all, your training. Was the training insane for it?
It was pretty insane. I mean, when I got this role, I was nowhere close to to Thresh physically. Um, so after I got the role, I had about a month and a half to get in the gym.
That's not that much time.
It's not. It's a very quick period. So, I was eating like a lot of chicken breasts and a lot of, you know, uh,
So, protein, that's your your tip.
Protein, meat and vegetables. Nothing else. Had to cut out all the fatty foods. Like, ice cream. You know, like Ben & Jerry's, you don't understand what that means to me to give that away.
What's the favorite flavor?
So I had to. Uh, there's this new one. Okay. The red velvet Ben & Jerry's.
That sounds good.
It's serious.
Well, we have a ton of Twitter questions. We we tweeted out to ask you some questions and it was kind of overwhelming. So, apologies in advance, people, if your question does not get asked, don't hate on me. Okay. Haley R. Queen wants to know what's the best part about being an actor?
Oh, man, just getting to play dress-up every day. I mean, sometimes we take ourselves too seriously as actors, but it's such a great job. I mean, you are playing cops and robbers, but on a incredibly expensive level. But it's it's awesome. I just love being able to go into a character's head and, you know, create something amazing.
Okay. Double H 9899. What was it like working with Josh Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence? Horrible, I'm sure.
I mean, you know, just the biggest diva, you know, Josh, oh my gosh, he, no, not at all. These guys are the coolest people on the planet.
Okay. Lottie BK wants to know, did you ever go to Jay Hutch's cast barbecues? What was was the food as good as he made it out to be?
How do you how do you know about those?
Your Twitter, your fans, it's your fans, not me. I don't know.
Yeah. Yeah. We had a Lottie BK, yeah. Dude, where you getting your information from? But, yeah, we did, yeah. He had um, we had a cast barbecues and he's nice. He can grill. He's a grill master.
Jen Ransome and Mocking Jay both asked the same question. Who was your best friend on set?
My best friend on set. Oh, that's impossible. You guys are trying to start wars. I mean,
We don't want to do that.
We really were all family. I mean, me and Alexander and and Josh and and Josh and Jack were closer in age, so we hung around a lot, you know. Um, but I was friends with everybody. Jackie Emerson is a really good friend of mine, and the mandolin. We all really became extremely close friends. And Leven Rambin were One big, awesome family.
That's awesome. So, Morphings, @Morphings wants to know, what was Dayo's favorite part about playing the character Thresh?
Well, you know, you know, this one character called Katniss in the book. I don't know if you know who that character is, but
Never heard of her.
I kind of saved her life once. But it's no biggie or anything. No, that was awesome. Like, saving the damsels in distress is always really. It was that scene. That scene was cool. I I look forward to that scene. I marked it on my calendar like, it's my moment, you know.
Well, this is what you get for being such a good sport.
Are you serious?
There you go.
Oh, thank you.
It's very Hunger Game-esque. The colors, it's very post-apocalyptic swag.
It is. And Thresh. A little. I like this. Thank you so much.
Like, you took some you took some punches, but you persevered and you
That's character. That's what it has.
There you go. That's why we did it for you.
Awesome. Thank you so much. I really appreciate this.
Thank you for coming in. It was great to have you here.
Thank you.
