Kyle Chandler Goes Back To His Childhood

On the set, when I walked into my son's room, everything in that room was what I had when I was a kid. The Atari with the cartridges you had to blow on and Yeah, all that stuff. A curtain rod and a set of bottle rockets. That was a whole day of fun. I'm Olly Javana here at the Young Hollywood Studio, with this handsome man, Kyle Chandler. How are you, Kyle Chandler? Hello, good, man. I love your dog. And this is Kyle's new woman in his life. This is Josie. My girl. And they, as you can see, are getting on extremely well. Um, Super Eight, the small-time movie that's about to, about to be released. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That no one's heard of. Right. They should put some billboards around town.

They need to advertise it to some extent. It's just silly. So, working with the kids, how was that? Because, as you said, they haven't acted and they're very young. Um, and they're pretty much, you know, this kid Joel, who who is the lead in the film, uh, he's never worked before. And here's the thing too, though. I mean, first of all, the casting is exemplary. Yeah. Elle Fanning is fantastic. I mean, God almighty, watching her, she's wonderful. All the kids are wonderful. You look at this kid that's never worked before and it gives you an idea of what it was like on the set watching J. J. work with the kids.

Because it wasn't the fact of of of a director working with kids, it was the fact of a director working with young artists. Right. And to watch how he brought that out and, uh, the respect that he gave working with the young artists, it was pretty, uh, pretty inspiring. And the movie is actually 1979, right? Base, where you would have been their age. I would have been 14, which is Yeah. Yeah, it was 14 in 1979, which was interesting because on the set, when I walked into my son's room, everything in that room was what I had when I was a kid. Right. The testers' paint spilled all over, the the Messerschmitt model hanging up, the Hindenburg over in the corner.

The Atari with the cartridges you had to blow on. Yeah, all that stuff. So that was that was pretty neat. We had a microwave in the kitchen that was the size of that table. Right. You know, and the ugly colors, the ugly yellow in the kitchen with the linoleum and it all came back. A curtain rod and a set of bottle rockets. That was a whole day of fun. Dispatch just got a call on Citizen's band. Joe and some of his friends, they were grabbed by military personnel at the middle school. Preston, you tell me everything and I won't throw you in jail. Yes, sir. But I think you should look at this first. Kyle Chandler mentioned Friday Night Lights, is that finished now, isn't it? Right. It's done.

Emotional? Scott? No, here's why. I love that show. And doing a TV show for five years, you get to meet these people. And that's an amazing run. You watch children grow up, all the but the great thing about it is it it ended strong. It ended. That little that little series will always be there, and it ended strong.
