Do you think vampires are real?

Deborah Ann Woll

Yes.

Young Hollywood

I'm Oliver Trana here at the Young Hollywood studio with the lovely Deborah Ann Woll. How are you?

Deborah Ann Woll

Hello. I'm wonderful. Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Thank you for stopping in.

Deborah Ann Woll

My pleasure.

Young Hollywood

And three names. Very greedy.

Deborah Ann Woll

Yes. Yes. Well, you know, my father picked Deborah, my mother picked Ann. So I figured I should use them both.

Young Hollywood

Onorable both. Right. Okay. Season five. True Blood. You are the coolest vampire I ever met. You really are.

Deborah Ann Woll

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

I believe it was to you. I believe it was. I better be gone when I get back. You're Jessica?

Deborah Ann Woll

I am. Yeah, but not now.

Young Hollywood

Well, who knows? Oh, hang on. Don't stop. That's why they made you sit further away. I was going to say, don't stop biting me but then the other side of my mind queued in and said, let her bite you. Now, it's just weird. Um, what can we expect from Jessica?

Deborah Ann Woll

Oh, gosh. Lots of antics. She's single now. Okay. So, she's going to have some fun.

Young Hollywood

As single people do.

Deborah Ann Woll

As single people do. And and a lot of anguish.

Young Hollywood

Right. Okay. Uh, blood, lots. We can see lots of blood.

Deborah Ann Woll

Lots of blood. Jessica cries more than anyone else and of course these are blood tears. I'm always covered in blood.

Young Hollywood

How does that work, the blood tears?

Deborah Ann Woll

Oh, they're fun.

Young Hollywood

Are they real tears?

Deborah Ann Woll

Sometimes they are and sometimes they're not. It depends on what they need them for. Sometimes we just cry and they color it in later and otherwise they'll paint them on.

Young Hollywood

Can you just cue tears?

Deborah Ann Woll

Well, no. You do your best to feel the emotion and hopefully you cry.

Young Hollywood

Right. But what if you cried and they didn't want the tears?

Deborah Ann Woll

Then it's a problem. I have actually more often gotten the note, we need you not to cry because we don't have the money to make them blood.

Young Hollywood

Okay. I heard that you to get into the part of Jessica you watched animal attacks.

Deborah Ann Woll

I did. You know, vampires are predators and that's something that as humans we don't really understand much anymore. So I watched it one to get into the mindset of prey of actually someone wanting to attack you as a human and then on the reverse as a predator.

Young Hollywood

What was the best animal attack that you saw? What animals attack really well?

Deborah Ann Woll

Crocodiles.

Young Hollywood

Crocodiles.

Deborah Ann Woll

Crocodiles are really terrifying because they can't rip flesh so they have to twist. So they bite and then they spin to sort of twist the flesh off. It's really fascinating. I haven't found a way yet to use that in True Blood but I would love to eventually.

Young Hollywood

Why do you think the vampire thing is so huge right now?

Deborah Ann Woll

Well I do, yeah. I do think it's sexy. I do think there's something about the fact that they hide amongst us that it's this inner quality that they look like humans but there's something sexy and dangerous underneath it all and the idea that anyone you see out in the street might have that.

Young Hollywood

Do you think vampires are real?

Deborah Ann Woll

Yes. Just say yes. It makes it all the more exciting. I want you to watch the show so.

Young Hollywood

Well, fans out there, I'm sure do believe that vampires are real. Crazy fan stories? I'm you must They're pretty hardcore.

Deborah Ann Woll

You know I do have one. They are very hardcore. This was more strange. I was, you know, I was on a cruise with my boyfriend and his family. And, you know, when you're on a cruise you're all sort of trapped on this boat so you can't get away from anyone. This one older man recognized me. And he couldn't remember the name of the character. So he called me Barbara. He called me Jasmine. I had a couple of different names and for some reason every time he seen me he go, meow. Like the sassy cat sound. And I couldn't figure out what sassy cat had to do with vampires.

Young Hollywood

Okay. You've used that same line in bars before.

Deborah Ann Woll

Yeah. Yeah. But he would go, hey Barbara. Right. I was like, what is that about?

Young Hollywood

Um, and you work with a charity as well that we were just talking about.

Deborah Ann Woll

Oh, yeah. I work with the Choroioremia Research Foundation. It's the CRF. Um, my boyfriend has an eye disease. He's uh, legally blind. And so they're helping to raise money for a treatment and a cure. So we raise a lot of money for them. He is this year running a marathon a month blindfolded with a guide.

Young Hollywood

Wow. So he's doing this crazy, crazy thing. That's some fit human being.

Deborah Ann Woll

Yeah. And he didn't start out that way. You know, he really worked hard to get there. So he's he's not an athlete. He's just got willpower.

Young Hollywood

Right. Well, I I read up on it and it is one of them, you know, diseases that isn't knowledgeable out there, which it really should be more.

Deborah Ann Woll

Well, it's it's very rare. It's it's interesting how many people we talk to who think that blindness has been cured. Right. At least um, you know, genetic blindness and it hasn't. And particularly this disease uh, which affects a very small group of people. It's families. So it's really just us, families and friends raising money. There's no pharmaceutical help. So we really try to get the word out there.

Young Hollywood

Right. Well, everyone check that out because it's important. And what uh, you've got another film coming up, right? You've got a film that you just shot.

Deborah Ann Woll

Ruby Sparks.

Young Hollywood

Ruby Sparks. Yes. Which looks really lovely. It's like one of them films even just watching the trailer I got emotional. It's it's basically about a guy that writes a woman to life. He's writes her to life.

Deborah Ann Woll

Yes. I've been writing non-stop since I saw the trailer. But nothing's appeared.

Young Hollywood

Well, it's it's cute because it's a little bit of if you have that much power over how someone is, are they still as interesting to you or is that is that true power or is that, you know, a problem? Lots of secret messages in the film. Very smart. Deborah, she's an angel. Watch her in True Blood where she won't be an angel. Thanks for stopping in.

Deborah Ann Woll

Thank you.
