The Many Hollywood Dads of Madeline Carroll

About this video
Madeline Carroll has had some pretty cool movie fathers in her young career; the latest Hollywood heavyweight she gets to call "dad" is Gerard Butler, her co-star in 'Machine Gun Preacher'. Madeline stops by the Studio to chat about the film, her amazing career thus far, and some wise advice she received from none other than Morgan "Morgs" Freeman. But what would she be doing if she hadn't been discovered in a nail salon at the age of three? Watch to find out! Hosted by Oliver Trevena and his trusty sidekick Georgie.

I love that when you say to someone what advice have you been given, they're like, Morgan Freeman just told me. Yeah. Morg Morgan just called me up. Yeah. Morgs. Yeah. MF just told me. Oh, MF. Don't know if I like MF. Yeah. Sounds like something's wrong.
I'm Oliver Trevena, here at the Young Hollywood studio, with this young amazing talent, Madeleine Carroll.
Funky.
Thank you.
Look at ya.
Thank you.
Did you pick this out yourself?
Uh, I did, me and my mom.
Where's it all, uh, from? It's a bit of a mixture, isn't it?
This is, yeah, it is a bit of a mixture. My jeans are J Brand, um, my shoes are Steve Madden, and then this is Rugby. My socks and stuff are Rugby, and this I think is Rugby, and my shirt is, who are you? You were found in a nail salon.
Yes, I was.
That is true.
Three years old.
That is true. I was three years old.
What were you doing, getting your nails done at three years old?
I was getting my nails done. I, I was really, I was a girly girl and I really,
You were really, I thought you were gonna tell me you were just with your mum watching, but you were actually getting your nails done.
No, I was actually getting my nails done and I loved it. I want this color. I want that color.
Um, Machine Gun Preacher. Yes. Which is your latest movie, very powerful, huge blockbuster movie. It's very gripping story.
It is, yeah. It is. Um, it's very sad. I love you, Bug. I love you too, Dad.
Gerard Butler. Yeah. Yeah. How was that, having Gerard as your dad?
That was cool. All the girls are like, no way, they're all jealous because they all love him.
Any funny stories from, uh, from working with Gerard that you can tell us about? Because he's a bit mad.
He's just a jokester. Yeah. He's just a jokester, always joking, always laughing.
And you've also had some other amazing dads in films.
Yeah, I have. Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey, uh, Kevin Costner. They were pretty, pretty cool. Everybody's so different though that I've had as my dad.
I wouldn't wanna ask you who's been your favorite, because that'd be wrong, but who has been your favorite?
Everybody's been cool, so I've been really blessed.
Who haven't you played the daughter of that you'd like to?
I would love to be the daughter of Daniel Day-Lewis. I would love that.
Well, maybe we can make that happen as well. That's kind of like the dream camera. Yeah. You look into it and say stuff, things happen. Okay.
I wish for a dog. I wish for a dog. Got Georgie. I got Georgie.
You can have Georgie. Oh, thank you. Yeah. It's a dream camera. Oh. That's it. It's a gift for you.
Thank you.
It's a gift for you. See that? You've got something with Morgan Freeman.
I do. I have a movie with Morgan Freeman coming up. He was like really cool to work with. He's just like how you imagine him to be, you know, from the movies. Really like soft and calm and really cool.
And we had, uh, you were in Flipped, obviously. Yeah. We had Callan in here.
Oh, you had Callan.
We did. Yeah.
Oh, no way. He got in here first. Oh, I was so jealous. How was he on set and stuff?
Oh, he's cool. Callan's great. And he's Australian, so that's cool.
Is that cool?
Yeah, I think that's cool.
Obviously, British is better.
Yeah, obviously.
Okay, good, just checking. Is that more fun when you work with people your own sort of age, because you're so young?
It is. I had so much fun working on Flipped because you got to go, have fun, do your scenes, but hang out off set with all these kids, and we were all dressed in like '60s clothes, so that was really cool.
Along the years, what have you learned? What's been the best thing that you've learned or the best advice you've been given?
Morgan Freeman just told me that always stay nice and always stay humble and you'll keep working. And, um, he's so nice and kind and gentle, and he's like done so many movies. So I'm, I'm gonna, I'm gonna stick to that.
I love that when you say to someone what advice have you been given, they're like, Morgan Freeman just told me. Yeah. Morg Morgan just called me up. Yeah. Morgs. Yeah. MF just told me. Oh, MF. Don't know if I like MF. Sounds like something's wrong. I can't invent Morg.
What would you be doing if you weren't acting?
If I wasn't acting, I would probably, um, play a, be doing a sport. I really like football.
Who's your American football team?
American football team. I like college football. I like Notre Dame and I like USC.
On that note, before anyone finds out that I actually don't know nothing about American football. Um, we're wrapping this up, but thank you for stopping.
Thank you so much for having me. And Machine Gun Preacher is an amazing film.
Yes, please go see it. And I'm sure we'll be seeing you for years and years as you just blossom into a swan.
Thank you so much.
