I remember that we would take these poles. They had these four poles and each of them represented one of the Beatles and that we would be dancing with them. And yes, I've kissed a pole. Come on, boy. See about me.
What's up, guys? Nicki Novak here in the Young Hollywood Studio with actor, producer, director, writer, editor and now singer, Rita Wilson.
That's me.
Superwoman, I should have said.
No, not quite.
Thank you so much for coming in.
It's a pleasure to be here, Nicki. People keep on crying baby for you. So come on and hurry. Come on, boy, see about me.
We met each other on the red carpet. In the spring, a couple of times. Different it was Grammy week.
That's right. We met at Paul McCartney's event. At the Music Cares event. That was an amazing night.
Amazing night. What struck me is that you and your husband have so much fun on the red carpet.
Every time I go out with him, it's like a date. It's a date night. No matter what we do, we try to make the best of it. And and that was a really exciting night because it was Paul McCartney and all different artists doing his songs. So, it was an amazing night and we just have fun. It's it's kind of cool. You know, listen, you get to spend time in the car together. You know, kind of look at each other, have a fun meal and then afterwards we got to hang out and meet all those amazing musicians backstage. So that was really fun.
Well, it was it was also interesting too because Paul McCartney is it's Sir Paul McCartney. So even, you know, people who we look up to are looking up to him and so excited to meet him.
Well, when I was young, when I was a little kid, like let's say elementary school. We the Beatles were just out and we were all obsessed with the Beatles. But I remember that we would take these poles. They had these four poles and each of them represented one of the Beatles and these were the poles that were kind of covering the um awning that went into the principal's office. So we would pretend that they were the Beatles and that we would be dancing with them. And yes, I've kissed a pole.
Well, speaking of kissing odd things, you have a new album AM FM. And when I saw it, I said, this reminds me of my first albums and I used to kiss these whoever was on the album, whether it was John Travolta or whoever Michael Jackson and this is now like it's so nostalgic to see this.
I really wanted to cut um what whatever they call it, press vinyl because um the experience I had, the album is called AM FM because there was a thing called AM radio that only existed before there was AM and FM radio. So the AM songs were the songs that were the hopeful, romantic, naive, uh, wishful fantasy songs of the '60s. And later on in the '70s, the music kind of shifted into much more rock and we had FM radio. And the FM radio was much more, I'd say subversive. The music got edgier, but it also got much more personal. So the singer songwriters sort of found their place on FM radio.
So I saw the video for Come See About Me and you had all these photos, old photos. Were they real old photos?
Yes, they were. Yes.
It was like an old car.
Right, that was my first car. Um there are a lot of pictures of me as a kid that I was pasting up on there because the songs were so um important to me that I selected that were part of my childhood. I wanted to sort of go back and look at those pictures and look at them in a different way. Sort of who I was at that point when I was um recording when I was listening to the songs.
And now you're going on tour.
I am.
How do you feel about going on tour? You mean you've done everything. You've done everything.
Well, let me just say what a tour is, right? This is not Madonna or Justin Bieber. This is a very small tour of small clubs. But I am going um nevertheless. And then the album comes out May 8th.
