Candace Cameron Bure

Hey, I'm Candace Cameron Bure. This is Young Hollywood, and we're about to play Saved By Grace. I'm going to read a scenario and tell you how to handle the situations kindly and gracefully. And graciously.

Young Hollywood

Okay. When a fan comes up to you when you're eating dinner.

Candace Cameron Bure

Oh, um, usually I will just say, "Sure, I will sign something or take a picture with them." If the food is like actually in my mouth, um, I might ask them to hold on, or could you come back in 10 minutes when I'm done? And usually people are totally cool with that, but, yeah, if you're the fan, just wait till they're done eating. That's nicer. That's a nice thing to do.

Young Hollywood

Oh, a child's public melt down. How do you handle that?

Candace Cameron Bure

Okay, I've been there. I, Natasha, once had a melt down when she was like three, in Nordstrom, kicking and screaming on the floor. And here's how I handle it. I got down on her level and I told her that we were not going to do that, and I got her back in her stroller still kicking and screaming, and I walked right out of Nordstrom. That was it. It ended my shopping day, but I I that's what you have to do, you know? It's happens with kids. Ooh, I was sweating that one out too. You know what was cool about that story? One of my sister's friends saw me in that situation, and she had called my sister and said, "Um, I saw Candace and her daughter and man, that was bad, but like she handled it so nicely," that she was so calm about it. And I was like, "Ooh," it was nice, a nice reward to hear.

Young Hollywood

How do you handle an awkward audition?

Candace Cameron Bure

I just run away. I would just run.

Young Hollywood

Ooh, bumping into an old fling.

Candace Cameron Bure

Hm. Does RJ Williams count as an old fling? I mean, I know we were like 11, and it was scripted on Full House. I didn't feel awkward bumping into him. I think if you bump into an old fling, you just you got to just play it cool. Hey, how are you? How's it going? I think you're just kind and maybe ask a few general questions and don't hang around too long if it's not a person you really want to talk to, but no reason to be weird about it.

Young Hollywood

Dealing with difficult scene partners.

Candace Cameron Bure

That is when as an actor, you call on your producers and say, "Could you please talk to them?" And I'll just wait over here patiently until you handle that. That's it. Saved by Grace. For more on kindness and graciousness, you can check out my new book. It's called Kind Is The New Classy: The Power of Living Graciously.
