Cameron Boyce on Breakdancing, Thirst Project, & Photobombing Millie Bobby Brown

How's it going?

I'm good. How are you?

Good. How was your weekend?

Uh, it was good. It was uh, pretty uneventful, which is always good.

I noticed that you uh recently photo-bombed Millie Bobby Brown.

I did.

At an event. Was that at the Emmys?

I did, yeah. That was Millie and Ana. Ana I worked with on uh D2 and D3. We were just all hanging out, dancing all night. And um, we just love that. saw the opportunity and I took advantage.

Now when you go out, do you do your breakdancing when you go out? I feel like if I knew how to do that, I would do it everywhere.

No, oh gosh, no. I no I keep it I keep it chill.

You don't want to do too much.

Yeah, you don't want to do too much. You know?

What a way to impress the ladies though.

Also like it's, you know, sometimes your shoes don't really work with the whole.

Yeah. You have to like lay down cardboard like they do in movies?

No. Big beat box on my shoulder.

Yeah exactly. That would impress everybody. Isn't that how it all started though? You got into dancing and then isn't that how you became an actor kinda from the dancing world?

Yeah. That's exactly how it happened. I was um, just sort of a dancer I was a dancer for seven years and I studied everything from breaking to like ballet to jazz, tap, modern. Yeah, all sorts of stuff.

Really? That's awesome.

Um yeah, it's cool. It, you know, helps you sort of be well rounded.

Did it come naturally to you?

It actually did come pretty naturally to me. I sort of came out of the womb dancing.

And now you've been doing so many great movies. Congrats on Descendants 3.

Yeah. Yeah, it's gonna be it's gonna be good. I I think people are really gonna like it. It sort of wraps up the story really nicely and um Yeah. Yeah. It it was really cool. We've all known each other for five years. So,

It's like your best friends now?

Yeah, on being on the movie was, you know, you feel like you sorta never left.

That's so much fun. It's cool. And when you're not acting and when you're not breakdancing, you're super involved in charity. What's this Thirst Project I've been hearing about?

Yeah. This is I'm wearing my hoodie right now. Um I designed this.

No, um it's really cool.

So cool.

I have had a relationship with the Thirst Project for a while now. One of my favorite things about the uh design is the wording that I chose. We are the generation that won the water crisis. And to me, every major issue that we have right now politically, whatever. Um, you know, the LGBTQ+ community, gun control, Black Lives Matter, equal pay for women, all of these things that need to be addressed are all being uh fore fronted by young people. It feels good to know you can actually make that difference.

Right.

And we are making that difference in every one of those issues plus more, right? But you know, it's it's a really uh cool thing to know that you're a part of a generation that is, you know, loud and proud.

And we were talking about it earlier. So you designed these. So these are the t-shirts that he's selling to obviously help with this charity. So this is what you do now.

Right. We got hoodies. We got t-shirts. We got tank tops. No. It's fun to design clothes though too. Aside from the fact that it's for a good cause.

Right. You're such a good draw, I mean this is amazing.

Thank you. Yeah, no, I I sketched this. You're talking about how hands-on I sketched this. Yeah, it's it was difficult. Hardest part about it was my signature. No. It was cool. I had a I had a good time. You know, it's it's really cool to sort of find ways to express yourself and this is sort of like an outlet to do something cool for, you know, charity, but then also to sort of explore your artistic side. It's really cool.

Yeah. You're doing well. Haven't you already raised was it over $50,000? Or where are you guys at right now?

We So, so we did our first campaign, we did uh we raised $27,000. And then I also uh worked with the Thirst Project on a different thing um with Key Club and that raised somewhere close to $100,000. So like we're We've just been doing stuff.

And people are just getting on there buying the shirts and loving it.

Yeah.

Right, right, right. Okay, when you're not doing charity, when you're not acting, what do you like to do for fun?

I have so many interests that it's kind of hard to like pinpoint.

Photography, right? I was noticing on your Instagram.

Oh, really into photography. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of people tell me that they will get like a really pretty picture on their feed and they're like, what account am I following? Is this a sponsored post?

Right.

And then it's mine. It's me. Which is cool. Like I I personally think that pictures are an incredible way of telling like a succinct story and

Of course.

yeah, I just have a really big interest in it. I'm interested in music and I play guitar now all of a sudden and like there are a lot of random things that I just take up.

Okay, before we end the segment, some sort of dance you can teach a newbie like me. I mean, I know that we're kinda chained here to the couch so we're not chained. Is there something like this?

Yeah, we can yeah, you can do a little a little wave. You know what I'm saying?
