Young Hollywood

Well, Craig Ferguson and I are in love.

Young Hollywood

He keeps having you on.

Young Hollywood

You've been on his show more times than anybody in the history of the show.

Young Hollywood

You have no idea what you're gonna talk about.

Young Hollywood

So what's up with the two of you?

Young Hollywood

An intense connection.

Young Hollywood

What's up, guys?

Young Hollywood

Nicki Novak here in the Young Hollywood Studio with Rampart star Brie Larson.

Brie Larson

Hi.

Young Hollywood

Hi.

Young Hollywood

You started acting when you were basically in the womb.

Brie Larson

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

And you said that you longed to have like a normal job.

Brie Larson

Yeah.

Brie Larson

I mean there's something romantic about it, about the consistency of it, of a nine to five job instead of like the insanity of what I've chosen.

Brie Larson

I had a interesting experience a couple weeks ago where this um this crazy man walked into this uh diner that I always go to and he thought that I was his wife and started ranting at me and and this waiter came and basically saved my life.

Brie Larson

Like called the cops on this guy and got him arrested.

Young Hollywood

Oh, he was acting crazy.

Young Hollywood

It wasn't cute old man charming crazy.

Brie Larson

No, no.

Brie Larson

I mean it was amazing, but it was not necessarily cute.

Young Hollywood

Oh, yeah.

Young Hollywood

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

What did he do?

Brie Larson

Um, he wanted to sit in my booth with me and I told him no, that he that he couldn't, that he was making me uncomfortable, and he stood up and started screaming at me.

Brie Larson

It was like, "You did this at pavilions."

Brie Larson

This waiter Albert is my night in shining armor and I was in love with him after this experience because he told him to get out.

Brie Larson

So I filled out the application.

Young Hollywood

Oh, my This is a movie, Brie.

Young Hollywood

You must write this.

Young Hollywood

You're a writer.

Young Hollywood

You must write this story.

Brie Larson

I have to write it.

Brie Larson

I'm giving away all my stories.

Brie Larson

Um, and so I filled out the application but I have no previous work experience so I just made up a fake resume and and had to sheepishly tell my mother that um in case DuPars calls that she's the manager of L & L Hawaiian Barbecue.

Young Hollywood

You wrote and directed the Arm.

Brie Larson

Yeah, I did it with my two best friends.

Brie Larson

We there was three of us.

Brie Larson

We wrote and directed it together.

Young Hollywood

And it was something about texting or

Brie Larson

Yeah, it's about um it's basically about text messaging and this new form of technology and how it can be misconstrued.

Brie Larson

It's a dark comedy.

Young Hollywood

I feel like there's one thing I cannot stand is when guys text me for dates.

Brie Larson

I know, talking on the phone is so nice.

Brie Larson

I mean the long form, writing letters is so nice.

Brie Larson

I and I know the guys that argue that texting is writing a letter.

Young Hollywood

That is not okay.

Brie Larson

No.

Young Hollywood

That's not someone to date.

Young Hollywood

Please.

Brie Larson

Absolutely not.

Young Hollywood

So how was Sundance for you?

Brie Larson

It was crazy because I've I'd never been before.

Brie Larson

Um so to get in with a something that I wrote and directed was really an honor and exciting and I didn't know what I was getting into at all.

Brie Larson

And it's just it's my favorite things in the world.

Brie Larson

It's like nature and movies.

Young Hollywood

So you're in Rampart.

Brie Larson

I am.

Young Hollywood

With Woody Harrelson.

Brie Larson

Mhm.

Young Hollywood

Who plays your dad.

Young Hollywood

Are you asking for more vegetables?

Brie Larson

Only verbly because I like eating the steak.

Young Hollywood

I bet you're curious about that artwork you have on the wall there.

Young Hollywood

What is that What does that mean with that collage?

Brie Larson

He's gonna give me his answer.

Brie Larson

It's just like little bits of paper and you like cut them out and you like glue them together and you like make another picture.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Young Hollywood

So you have like a man's head and and a woman's heel digging into his head and

Brie Larson

You have eyes.

Brie Larson

It's great.

Young Hollywood

It's so funny because I read this about you that you were homeschooled and growing up that you said you were sort of like you never did anything wrong.

Young Hollywood

You were like the good girl.

Young Hollywood

And yet in United States of Tara you play like a lot of these little bit darker roles.

Brie Larson

Yeah.

Brie Larson

Yeah.

Brie Larson

I mean I guess it's a way to to live it, right?

Brie Larson

Or maybe maybe that's why I never got to the dark side because I'm able to like get it out in this other way.

Brie Larson

I didn't really have any friends.

Brie Larson

All I wanted to do was go to concerts.

Young Hollywood

Is that your rebellion kind of thing?

Brie Larson

Yeah, I think I I wonder if maybe that's why I never have gone to the dark side because I'm able to like get it out in this other way.

Young Hollywood

So who do you listen to?

Young Hollywood

Like what's on your iPod?

Brie Larson

I really like digging deep into like psychedelic music.

Brie Larson

I like to go into like garage punk.

Brie Larson

I like sixties sort of like rare stuff.

Young Hollywood

21 Jump Street.

Brie Larson

Mhm.

Young Hollywood

Was Johnny Depp is he gonna be in the movie making a cameo?

Young Hollywood

You're not allowed to say.

Brie Larson

I mean that's a highly controversial question that I don't think I can go there.

Young Hollywood

I'm taking that as a yes.

Brie Larson

No.

Brie Larson

No.

Brie Larson

I mean it would be cool.

Brie Larson

Wouldn't it?

Young Hollywood

It would be.

Brie Larson

We're great.

Brie Larson

Mhm.

Young Hollywood

See, she's got all these secrets that she's keeping from us.

Brie Larson

Don't don't tell anyone.

Young Hollywood

We have a mutual crush on somebody.

Young Hollywood

Or maybe not really a crush.

Brie Larson

Who?

Young Hollywood

For a good reason.

Young Hollywood

Well, Craig Ferguson and I love.

Young Hollywood

He keeps having you on.

Young Hollywood

You've been on his show more times than anybody in the history of the show.

Brie Larson

I know, but it's really just because we run into each other and he goes, "Hey, you want to be on the show?"

Brie Larson

And I say, "Of course."

Young Hollywood

Which I think he's stalking you personally.

Young Hollywood

I don't think I I think if you see him at DuPars

Brie Larson

He was the guy at DuPars that I've forgotten to mention.

Young Hollywood

Oh, right.

Young Hollywood

Well, now it all makes perfect sense.

Brie Larson

He's amazing.

Brie Larson

He's so quick.

Brie Larson

He moves so fast and you have no idea what you're gonna talk about.

Young Hollywood

So what's up with the two of you?

Young Hollywood

An intense connection.

Young Hollywood

One of your first jobs in the business, you worked on Leno.

Young Hollywood

What's with you and the talk show host?

Brie Larson

I don't know.

Brie Larson

I don't I don't get it.

Young Hollywood

Do you have a crush on me?

Brie Larson

I kind of do.

Young Hollywood

So you did skits on Leno when you were a kid?

Brie Larson

Yeah, that was my first job.

Brie Larson

We came to Los Angeles from Sacramento, had maybe four hundred dollars to our name and um tried to get a job and that was the first thing.

Brie Larson

They wanted someone who looked like they would be in a fake Barbie commercial.

Young Hollywood

Was you?

Young Hollywood

What did you have to do?

Brie Larson

It was Malibu Mudslide Barbie.

Brie Larson

There was a lot of mudslides happening in Malibu at that time.

Brie Larson

So it was this big beautiful doll house and this I happily playing with these dolls and then there was this huge vat of mud and we like dumped it and all the Barbies flew out.

Young Hollywood

You've had a good life, Brie Larson.

Brie Larson

I mean it's been exciting.
