So I, I read in Us Weekly, something about you've always wanted to do a Subway commercial?
Oh yeah, I think those are really cool. I've just want to be in any commercial, so I feel like the Subway commercials you see them all the time on TV, but I would love to be.
And you think they're funny and they're good?
Yeah.
She might have worn bronze to her prom, but she's got gold around her neck. We're chatting medals and metallics with Olympic gymnast, Aly Raisman. So, congratulations.
Thank you.
Unbelievable performance. The Fierce 5 or the Fab 5, what do you guys call yourselves?
The Fierce 5.
The Fierce 5. How did the Fab 5 sort of like, cuz it kind of evolved. People started calling you the Fab 5. I guess the name was already taken by a basketball team. Um and it was like trademark, so we couldn't use it, so.
Really?
We all decided the Fierce 5 because I guess we're we think we're fierce, so we like it. Well, you were you were kind of you were a little bit of a veteran. You're in the team captain. How did that sort of come about that you were named team captain?
Well, I am the oldest and uh all the girls just voted and um they voted for me, so it's an honor and I'm just really happy and I hope that I did a good job being team captain.
You did more than a great job. Two gold medals and a bronze medal. Unbelievable. It was it was like for Americans being here, it was such a nerve-wracking moment. But you were known to be like the girl that was sort of cool under pressure. Have you always been like that or is it competition you just sort of you just sort of have this, you know, steely mentality? Like how does how does it
Um, well I work really hard every day in the gym and I'm there for 30 to 35 hours a week, so by the time I get to the competition, I just feel really confident and I just try to focus on having fun and enjoying it and that helps me do better.
At what age did you start and sort of in preparation for the Olympics? Sort of like how many hours are we talking? Sort of like what are your some of your like the toughest drills that you have to do?
Uh, well, I started when I was two with Mommy & Me classes, so I'm 18 and I've been doing it for 16 years.
At two? What could you do at age two? Could you backflip at age two?
No, I guess just kind of crawling around on maybe trying to get up on the beam.
And then so going up leading up to the Olympics. So did you have to you obviously had to amp up the training?
Yeah, the Olympic year I took my senior year um online, so I couldn't go to school for that, but I was definitely okay with that because I wanted to make the Olympic team and have no regrets. So even though I um didn't go to school for the last year, I still got to go to prom and then I still got to see, yeah, I did.
So you get to go to prom with?
I went to prom with my guy friend Jamie.
Oh, I heard you have a really good guy friend, but he's just a friend, right?
Yes, he's just a friend.
That's those are those are good ones to have. So how was your prom? I know you're into fashion, so what did you wear and how was it?
Uh, I wore a brown dress and it had a uh like a bronze cap sleeve and it was a low v-neck and I really liked it and it was really comfortable. And um I had a lot of fun. It was just fun to be able to um for once just not think about gymnastics and just enjoy it for a couple of hours.
What are some of the trends that you're into? Are you into like anything sort of moving into fall? What are you all about right now?
Uh, well, the metallic colors are very in right now, so I like that. I like the skirts that are um like silver or bronze, those colors are even gold obviously. But um I also like for summer the dresses that are short in the front and then they go longer in the back. The high-low.
And I know you're going to be doing fashion police with Joan and Melissa Rivers, who were here. So have they given you any idea of what you're going to be doing? Are you going to be critiquing people or
Uh, I'm going to be doing Bitch Stole My Look. So.
Are you serious? So okay, explain that to me. What is Bitch Stole My Look?
It's when two people wear the same outfit and you have to say which one wore it better.
Really? Okay. Well, if you could give a gold medalist gold medal to like somebody in fashion. Like who what actress or or somebody that you know that you think has great
Um I think Kate Middleton. She has the best.
Now, did you get to meet her over there?
Yes, I did.
You did. What did you talk to her about?
Um, I talked to her just I really briefly, yeah. I told her I loved her style and she said she loved um our leotards and that we were amazing to watch, so it was a real honor to meet her. So.
So, I I read in Us Weekly, I love that you're in Us Weekly, we get to read about you now. Something about you've always wanted to do a Subway commercial?
Oh yeah, I think those are really cool.
Why a Subway commercial?
Um, well, I've just want to be in any commercial, so I feel like the Subway commercials you see them all the time on TV, but I would love to be.
And you think they're funny and they're good?
Yeah. I mean Nastia was in it and I use I mean I look up to her. She was an amazing role model, so that's why I guess too.
Are you kidding me? So if you're okay, so you're going to Subway, would you have like a go-to sandwich that you always get there?
Uh, well, um I like it just plain and simple, just like turkey and lettuce and then some cheese and then uh tomato.
Keeping healthy.
Yeah.
Nice and healthy. Like she is. If you can could like pick a you know, your best moment. I know it's probably so hard. Was it standing on the podium? Is it the actual competition? Like what part would it be?
Um, I think just finishing my floor routine and running off to my coach Mihai and just having him say that was the best floor routine you've ever done.
So Rio, any plan Have you made a decision whether or not you'll be going to Rio or
Um, Rio's definitely in the back of my mind right now. I'm um definitely want to come back after I finish the tour that we're all going on and it's going to last for three months, so after that definitely want to come back.
You'll have a better idea after the tour whether or not you want to pursue that. Well, we're hoping that you will. I don't know if your parents if they can take it, but Okay. So Ally, in the Olympic spirit, we have somebody here today that really wants to show off his gymnastics skills to you. He's been practicing. He's hoping to go to Rio. Okay. Okay. His name is Brian and he wants to show you some of his skills and wants to have you critique him. But we also have some judges here. Could we bring in the Israeli, the South African and the American judge, please?
Mom's here. Hi mom.
Brian, come on in. Ally, how's his form coming in? Is it good?
Perfect.
Touches are over here. Scores from the judges. If you want to step to the side Brian. The South African judge gave you out of a possible 16, you got a 15. 069. The Israeli judge gave you a 15. 042. The American judge gave you a 9. 003. The young Hollywood judge wasn't quite so impressed. I gave you a 6. 935. Ally, your thoughts?
I was very impressed. You got good height and you almost stuck the landing. You almost stuck the landing.
What can Brian do to improve?
Just stick the landing. That's the last impression.
It is the last impression. Does he have hopes for Rio?
Of course.
Do you want do you want to get a high five from Ally? I was just thinking that. I did. Congratulations. You even remind me of Sam Koc, the who was on the men's gymnastics team. There you go. Major props. So you'll see each other in Rio hopefully?
Yes.
Great great work. Team USA. Newest member of Team USA. Thank you, Brian. Thank you, Ally for your critique. Thank you, judges. Thank you very very much. Thank you all for joining us. This was fun.
