What's up, guys?
We're hanging out in the Young Hollywood studio with the very talented Emma Kenney.
Hi.
So excited to have you here.
Thanks for having me.
Now, we were talking about how this is like a puppy.
Yeah, it feels like a human head or like a puppy.
Like, we're really debating which.
And I have to mention your adorable three pets.
Charles and friends.
So cute.
And then Cheddar, I love you, Cheddar.
Cheddar.
Big Cheddar, I love him.
He's like a 40 lb lap cat.
Like, I love him.
Yeah, I saw the Instagram videos you were taking last night.
It was like with your the Gucci purse, and it was just like laying there.
Yeah, you're such a baller.
Posing next to the purse.
Gucci.
Yeah.
2018.
He's such a baller.
I love him.
Do you think your pets know you're Emma Kenney?
Oh my god.
Emma Kenney.
Do you think they know I'm Debby?
Do you think they know?
That's so funny.
I always like make jokes.
I'm like, Charles, like, you're so spoiled.
I'm like, your mother works hard.
Like, your mother slaves at set every day.
Like, all day.
Don't you know?
Like, please, like, respect a little bit.
And I heard you don't like to watch your own stuff though, right?
You like do you like cringe when you hear your own voice?
Like, I'm like that too.
I cringe when I hear my own voice for fact because I'm sure all of your audience members are cringing right now hearing my voice.
No, no, no.
Not at all.
See, we love your voice.
We love to watch you.
Thanks.
But watching yourself can be tough, right?
Yeah, you know, I've been watching Roseanne because this is like a different project and I've been wanting to like see it because this is something super recent.
But for Shameless, I started off as a baby, so I just think it could be me just not wanting to see myself in my awkward stage.
Could be something simple as that.
I'm still 18 and new to this business, so we'll have to see if I
But this is like the dream career, booking a show like Shameless and then booking a show, Roseanne, which is such a cult following.
Like what did you do when you found out you got the job?
It was my 18th birthday when I found out I booked it, so it was literally the best birthday gift I could have gotten.
I was so excited.
I'm going to instantly binge watch Roseanne, obviously.
How long did that take you?
Few months.
I'm not fully done yet actually.
Yeah.
But I'm on like eight, maybe, season 8.
It was probably good though to watch the show and now when you work with them, you get the dynamic.
That was what I wanted going into it, because I needed to understand like the Conner family vibe and like even simple things is like where you walk on set, like if there's a back door there, if it's just a stage door, you know what I mean?
Like, just so it's more realistic and you're actually fitting in the house.
What was it like on your first day on set?
Like, were you starstruck?
Was it like you had to pinch yourself, like, I can't believe I'm here.
Yeah, I was very scared.
I was holding the little kids' hands, Jayden and Ames, who who play my little brother and cousin, and I was like holding them, like gripping their hands for dear life, like looking.
I saw him sitting next to Laurie Metcalf at the table where you eat.
I'm like, you're kidding.
This is like literally like iconic.
So, I mean, it was just crazy.
My first time meeting John, Goodman, it was actually, this is a funny story.
I've never told this.
It's actually very awkward.
So I had met everybody else and then John like came and sat down like right across from me and I was like, oh my god, like John Goodman.
So I was like, very awkward, just being me.
I go, hey John, I'm I'm Emma, like, and then John is like, he didn't hear me.
So then I was like, I'm Emma, John, hi.
And like, still nobody, he like didn't hear me.
And then like Sarah Gilbert was like, John, like, because they were sitting next to each other.
Sarah tapped him and was like, John, this is Emma.
John was like, oh, sorry, I'm Emma.
I'm John.
He goes, I'm Emma.
So I brought you a gift because I know that you said you and Roseanne both love cheese.
Brie cheese.
Oh my gosh, we love cheese.
That's the best thing I've.
I had to bring you cheese because didn't you say the first thing you bonded over was at craft services?
Yes.
So, you like cheese?
I literally love brie cheese.
Ooh, I'm like about to open it now.
I hope it's a good kind.
I don't know.
I tried to get the best kind.
No, this looks great.
You're my hero.
Ooh.
You got to microwave it and then let it melt.
Oh, trust me, I know all about brie cheese.
It's literally the best.
Was she nice when you originally met her?
Was it just like she was warm to you and?
Oh, everybody from the get-go was so welcoming and kind and it was like such a communal set, you know, because they had all been together for 30 years before like working together and now there's just three new kids on set, so obviously they're going to be kind and.
And before we ended, I have to mention, I know you're a Virgo.
I'm a Virgo.
And you're into astrology?
I'm so into astrology.
A little bit.
Are you going to make me guess your sign?
Yeah, can you guess my sign?
Yes, let me try.
Okay.
Um, hold up.
Libra.
What month is that?
I'm not a Libra.
Do you know, um, what element you are?
Twins.
You're a Gemini then?
Yeah.
That's not the element.
So you're an air sign.
That's the element.
I guess Libra, which was an air sign, so I was in the right element.
I was reading about your sign.
It says intelligent, patient, observant, analytical.
Are you observant?
I'm very observant.
I'm very all of those.
I'm very much so a Virgo.
Like, I'm like a perfectionist, like type A personality, like I hate being late to anything.
Like
You were on time today, so that's good.
I was.
I got here at like 12:29, I think.
Like literally instead of 12:30.
Well, thank you so much for being here.
We really appreciate it.
Oh, thank you for having me.
Roseanne and I will enjoy this brie very much.
