Maia & Alex Shibutani Reveal Best Post-Olympics Moment

Welcome to Young Hollywood, guys. We have two very special guests in studio today because Olympians are in the house.

We're special.

And I'm so excited about it if you can't tell. Maia and Alex Shibutani, aka the Shib Sibs. Did you guys come up with that?

About 10 years ago, it was kind of something that was going around. We're like, oh, let's embrace it. Let's let's go for it, right? People always called us the Shibbs. They called me They called me Big Shib and Little Shib and then Shib Sibs kind of happened and we've gone with it.

Besides the awards ceremony, what was the best moment there for you each personally?

Tie between two. The moment that we finished our free dance in the individual event, just at center ice, even before we got our scores or got any of the reaction, just being there together, knowing that we'd done our very best, that's yeah. The best moment. And then That was our last competitive performance at the Olympics.

Yep.

But then also meeting the kids that we were mentoring over there in Korea. That was really special.

You guys had been mentoring a classroom of students, right? For some time. And then they didn't know that you were going to surprise them when you guys were there. Is that right?

Correct. Yeah, so we actually, uh, they were able to get tickets to our to our free dance, the final event that Maia was referring to. Oh my god. And we totally threw down, we did the best that we possibly could. And so it was really special that they were there in the arena and we were able to say hi and kind of wave to them, but then we had to go. And what they didn't know was a couple days later we were able to meet them in person and Maia kind of left out conveniently the fact that it was very emotional, because at that point after winning two bronze medals, we felt like they had played such a important and special role in our success at the games.

We've been working with them for six months over video chat, so then to finally see them in person right before we were about to compete at the Olympics. It was really emotional.

By emotional like tears.

Yeah, and it was everyone. I mean, I think that, you know, we knew going into the program that it was gonna be really fun and we were going to learn a lot, both sides were going to learn a lot, but it ended up being something so much more than that.

Right. And Alex, was that your favorite moment as well?

I mean, she went first and she kind of took my two.

Okay, fair enough. At least we're on the same page about it, right?

Yeah, yeah.

I saw you were doing a ton of stuff with the Oscars that were going on, you were at the Vanity Fair party. What's been your favorite post-Olympic event or maybe somebody that you've met at one of the events that you were really.

We took a photo with Jordan Peele with his Academy Award.

Yeah. And I got to hold it. Very heavy.

That's so. What was heavier, the Oscar or the medal?

The combined weight of the medals might make it close. We didn't test it. We didn't have a scale. I only there was a scale.

Okay, Fair enough. That's a good question. What's heavier, an Oscar or an Olympic medal?

Well, the Oscar is for sure heavier than one. But when you stack all four of ours, it could be close. I don't know.

I've never actually seen an Olympic medal in person before. We might be able to do something here. Okay. So these Oh my God. So we won two bronze medals, so that means we have four for the family. Can I hold that?

Yes, you may.

Now you've held Olympic medals. You sure I don't need to sign a waiver or something?

Oh, shoot. Can we get up the the pen and the clipboard please?

Oh, this is so cool, you guys. How do you wear this around your neck?

Uh, you put it on two. times two. And yeah. No, it's uh actually.

Will you try? Will you show? Well you show. There's a technique, I think.

I'll show on Maia. Okay. Um, you know, there is the head duck, right? And then the handshake afterwards. And then you go to the second one. And then I fixed my hair. Yeah, that that's right. Yeah. Sorry. Okay, ready? Mhm. Watch for uh clanking. Yep, you hold it so that it don't.

Was there any etiquette school for how to wear multiple medals?

Oh, fair. There we go. No, but we were happy to uh open an etiquette school.

That looks good on you. I think you have to take one back so we can pass out or toss out the interview. Okay. Um, with both of you wearing a medal and just giving your biggest

I'm good with passing out too. This is a really comfortable couch.

Well, maybe um, we'll toss out the interview and then you can take it out.
