What's going on guys? Nicole Cotch in the Young Hollywood Studio hanging out with Miss Katie Stevens.
Hey. How are you?
Good, how are you?
Good.
Welcome back.
Thank you.
You look gorgeous. I love the black and the bold lip.
Thank you.
You know, Get that. Bold. See what I did there?
I see that. Yeah, I see what I did there. We're on the same wavelength.
Yes. Well, welcome back.
Thank you.
Before we talk about The Bold Type though, I heard you have a really cool story about how you worked in a cupcake shop. That was before you became an actress. And I and I want you to tell the story.
So, I did American Idol when I was 16. Yeah. And so, after that, I was kind of trying to find my way through the music industry. I it was proving to be very difficult. So, I kind of gave up on music and I realized that I was running out of money and rather than my parents being like, "Yeah, we'll give you money." My parents were like, "You're going to get a job." Cuz you don't have any. Yeah. So, I uh had some friends and they were working at Sprinkles Cupcakes at The Grove. Sprinkles. And so, I applied and I got a job at Sprinkles. And I worked there for like a year until I finally booked Faking It. But, yeah, I worked at Sprinkles Cupcakes. And I used to have to park on the CBS lot like in front of the American Idol stages and walk to work to go to Sprinkles.
Did that humiliate you?
It like at the time, it was kind of like I was mortified. And I was like, "I don't I hope nobody recognizes me." Like I and I love Sprinkles. It's nothing to do with Sprinkles but just because I felt like I was taking a step backwards in my career. But, it kind of lit a fire underneath me because I was like, "I know where I want to be in my life and I don't want to be, you know, serving cupcakes forever." Oh, what was funny was I booked Faking It and our first day on set, Greg Sulkin, his manager sent him a box of a dozen Sprinkles cupcakes. And I was like, "Hey, Greg. Yeah. If I didn't book this, I would have been boxing those for you."
Oh my gosh, how funny. I feel like that's such a cool story. It's like it was kind of meant to be and it was like kind of like intertwined.
Well, and telling it now, it's like humbling and it's like one of the better experiences of my life having to kind of humble myself and take a step back and realize that things that happen in this industry are fleeting moments and you have to be grateful for everything that you have when you have it cuz it could be gone and you could be needing to get a 9 to 5.
Definitely. So, let's talk about The Bold Type.
Yes.
Based off of Joanna Coles, and we've had her in studio. But a Cosmo Day is a bit like a Dog Day. It's seven times longer than any other day and it's packed with everything from celebrity, beauty, fashion. Oh, I mean, she's she's The definition of badass. Unbelievable. She's amazing. Unbelievable. And it follows your character, Jane Sloan.
Yes.
And you're a writer at a women's magazine.
Yes.
And I actually I watched the pilot last night. I think it's it's amazing and it has so many different
Thank you.
things going on in the show. I want to know what your favorite part of the show is.
I would say definitely the female empowerment aspect. And I love how they have portrayed a boss like Joanna Coles, who is still intimidating and still gets things done, but she's encouraging and supportive of all the people that work for her. Yeah. Um, so I love that aspect. But, it's just been such a fun show. I mean, we have like the fashion aspect of it. It's like every girl's like dream to be on a show like this and be able to showcase, you know, strong women for the younger generation to watch.
Katie, you are amazing. Thank you so much for coming by.
Thank you for having me. It's always a pleasure. Thank you so much.
