Uh, this movie is so cute.

So fun.

Hey, hey, hey!

What do you think is Hey, singing competition.

Just think, your neighbor, the the the grocery store manager, that that that chicken right there.

Everyone in this city gets a shot at being a star live on my stage.

So tell me what that was like when you got the call from your from your people that you'll be playing an elephant.

I was I freaked out, but I was I was excited because I relate to Mina a lot.

So, it was like my dream role cuz I was really shy as a kid.

And so I was like, oh, this is perfect.

It's my first movie.

I get to sing in it.

So, it was for me, it was just too good to be true.

Yeah, it's something I've wanted to do for ages.

Play a gorilla.

Yeah.

No.

That, too.

But to um play an animated character and also have the chance to do some singing because it's not something I'd done like I've not been paid to do it before, put it that way.

You've been doing it for free this whole time.

I've been doing it for free in secret.

Um so I mean, you know, it's it's that to be cast alongside people like Tori who's a kind of

Who does get paid to do it.

Yeah, quite right, too.

Um a lot, I heard.

Uh and you know, it's really it's lovely validation for me to to be put alongside some really talented singers.

If I feel that I could be certain then I would say the things I want to say to you.

All both of your characters kind of have these obstacles in their way, whether it's for Johnny, it's his family and then and then for Mina, it's her stage fright.

I'm curious cuz you said you were shy.

Did you have stage fright as a kid?

A little bit, yeah.

Yeah, my my dad's a musician and he would try to get me to come on stage.

Like I was like three.

And I was singing all the time around the house and my parents were like, come on, like you're not shy in the house.

Like, what are you doing?

And I just I hated being in front of people.

I was so nervous.

And I think just over time I realized that like once the music starts, you have to just like shed all of that fear.

And I found like a safe place on stage.

I never had that problem.

When I was um

I was going to say, I feel like you never.

You want me to sing?

It just reminded me.

So, when I was three, the first film I was taken to see was Bambi.

They were doing like a a re-screening of it.

And when "Drip, Drip, Drop, Little April Showers" came on, I'd already had it on VHS and I climbed on the little stage bit at the button in front of the movie screen and I sang

In the movie theater, "Drip, Drip, Drop, Little April Showers."

That's amazing.

Yeah.

I was going to I was going to say that's adorable.

Like, nobody yanked you off the

I think my mother did fairly quickly.

Yeah.

She came and grabbed me for some.

She was like, this kid.

Yeah.

We're putting him in theater school.

Boom.

Um, you know, it's all about kind of like also following your bliss despite these obstacles.

So, I I want to know, what made you guys follow your bliss and and go into this crazy business called show?

Oh, gosh.

Um I mean, for me, I wasn't ever thinking about anything else other than music.

Like, I didn't think of the business side of things.

That was all later.

I was like, oh, I have to think about these things now, okay.

But I think I still even now, being more established and whatever, I I try to still try to get back to that like pure love of what I did in the first place.

Um which is really just loving to sing.

I try to get back into that like that little girl that just that's all she wanted to do.

And it's tricky sometimes with all the you know, different things that are involved now, but I think that's what's so cool about this movie is it it brings you back to that like pure simple place of just like following your dream.

Yeah.

Do you have a favorite karaoke song?

Uh anything nineties.

I'm a nineties kid.

Me, too.

Okay.

What's your What's your go to?

Mine's "What's Up?" for non-blond.

Oh, I I don't know.

I go I What's going on?

Anything Britney Spears or like Destiny's Child and sync.

Just I don't I don't know if I have like one.

It's just in that

I could probably do it, yeah.

If I

You probably Um you know, working on an animated film is super fun, but then it can also be kind of like an isolating experience.

So, I wonder if you guys got to play off of each other or did you really work on your own?

We I mean, we all sort of recorded separately in very different parts of the planet, you know.

And that is it's weird at first and it's a bit difficult to get your head around, but there's also sort of kind of something really magical about all of you, you know, we turned up at the screening at TIFF and it was like, look what we did, you know?

And you meet for the first time and that's a kind of quite a magical thing, a new thing.

Just rolling your sweats.

That's the other fun thing about doing voice over.

Yeah.

For sure.

Yeah.

Oh, yeah.

So, I mean, I sort of do that anyway.

You woke up like this?

Is that what you're saying?

Yeah.

No.

I dressed last night.

Yeah.

No, I didn't.

I love it.

You guys are also doing songs that like people know.

Yes.

Like it's you know, it's not all original music.

So, what was your favorite song to perform to record for the for the movie?

Oh, gosh.

I mean, I really have I mean, I get to sing "Hallelujah."

That's kind of the first

Which is one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard, by the way.

It is gorgeous.

And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of song with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah.

It was a huge honor to sing that song.

I think it's such a a crazy moment in the film, too.

It's like a very low point or a turnaround point, you can say, but um "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" though is really was so much fun to sing.

I still I still love it.

So much fun to sing.
