Young Hollywood

I hate the silence in between. I don't like it. Don't like it, it's very awkward. I'm Oliver Trevena here on the Young Hollywood sofa, joined by Alberto Rosende. What's up? How are you?

Alberto Rosende

I'm great, thank you.

Young Hollywood

I love your name. I want your name.

Alberto Rosende

Thank you, thank you very much.

Young Hollywood

I want your name. I think I might be Oliver Rosende after this.

Alberto Rosende

Oh, you know what, you can, you can have it. You can borrow it, absolutely.

Young Hollywood

And you'll be Alberto Trevena.

Alberto Rosende

You know what, that actually has a nice ring to it. Yeah, yeah, let's do it. Let's switch it around. So next time I'm on IMDB, we've changed it.

Young Hollywood

We've changed it. Well, people know your name now. Uh, yeah. This is, this is happening. It's happening, it's starting.

Alberto Rosende

It's starting. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Shadowhunters. What a great entrance into the world.

Alberto Rosende

Oh, yeah. I mean, it's been really exciting. I mean, and to be a part of a show that has such a fandom,

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

right, right. and such like a support group is actually really, really awesome.

Young Hollywood

Right. Were you familiar with the books before coming on this project or?

Alberto Rosende

Uh, no, actually. I hadn't I'd heard of the movie.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

But I, for some reason, couldn't see it.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

And then doing research for the audition, I found out about the book series. So, I had no idea it was, you know, based on. Okay. And then, of course, after finding out, I decided just to read all of them as much as I could. And it was awesome. It's exciting.

Young Hollywood

How does that work, 'cause do you, is it, do you know what's going to happen now then? Or not?

Alberto Rosende

Um, yes and no. I, I know like the basic key plot points now that, that are about like for characters' journeys and whatnot. But as far as how we're going to get to those points and what we're going to do with them after,

Young Hollywood

Right, okay, okay.

Alberto Rosende

is up to like the new writers of the show, like I, and our showrunners who kinda

Young Hollywood

So, there's a little changes.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, little but I like that I know what, like what to expect.

Young Hollywood

Right. It's nice to know that you're, you're not dying any time soon.

Alberto Rosende

Yes.

Young Hollywood

It's nice to know. You're gonna make it to the end. I mean, a lot of people in TV shows now, they're like, I just got the next episode and I'm dead. I'm not glad.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, we had, we had a couple of things like that. Where in there, I can't really talk about it. But different things. I can't really talk about it.

Young Hollywood

Almost. Almost. But nearly told you.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, I jumped back. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Let's talk about Simon. Yes. Um, this is, you play Simon in the show.

Alberto Rosende

I play Simon, yes.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Um, how is that as a character?

Alberto Rosende

Amazing. Um, Simon is Clary's best friend.

Young Hollywood

Right, right, right.

Alberto Rosende

And he's this character that is kinda a comedic relief. He's always willing to make a joke, always trying to lighten the situation because he's always trying to do the best for everyone.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

And also, he kinda enjoys making those jokes, being like that that can be there and

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

take a really heavy situation and kinda give it some levity.

Young Hollywood

He, um, I, I sense there's bit more than friends. He wants something more than just a friendship.

Alberto Rosende

Oh, yeah, he's fully in love with Clary.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

I know that feeling. It's like head on and it's at that point where she just doesn't see it because they've been friends for so long.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

They've been so close that

Young Hollywood

He's passed the friend line.

Alberto Rosende

Oh, he's, he's like heavy in the friend zone.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

Really deep.

Young Hollywood

What's Simon gonna do about that? Can we know? Can you say? Can you tell us?

Alberto Rosende

What I can say is that he, what he doesn't want to do is ruin the friendship.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Alberto Rosende

So that's the, he's always on the plank, almost. Willing to take the dive but afraid that the water underneath is going to be too cold. Yeah. So he doesn't

Young Hollywood

That's a great line.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, that was a great.

Young Hollywood

Anyone that's in this position in their world right now, I think if you delivered that line, the girl would totally go with you. You know what I'm like

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, you know what, and you take the plunge but Simon's afraid to.

Young Hollywood

Right, right. That's a great one. I'm afraid to take the plunge in case the water's too cold. Yeah. Wow. I'm gonna make this phone call.

Alberto Rosende

Well, good.

Young Hollywood

After, after this.

Alberto Rosende

Do it. Do it.

Young Hollywood

I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it. Um, it shot in Toronto.

Alberto Rosende

Yes, we shot in

Young Hollywood

Uh, which we're talking about cold. This cold.

Alberto Rosende

We got lucky.

Young Hollywood

Oh, you got lucky.

Alberto Rosende

From May to October, Toronto's probably the most beautiful place ever because it's nice and cool.

Young Hollywood

And those are the months you were there.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah. And those are the months we were there. We got really lucky. As soon as November comes around, it's like, you get slapped in the face with like bitter cold.

Young Hollywood

Right. Which you're used to 'cause you're a New Yorker.

Alberto Rosende

I'm used to, but I'm originally from Miami.

Young Hollywood

Okay. You just don't stop moving, do you?

Alberto Rosende

I don't, I don't stop.

Young Hollywood

Are you on the run, Alberto? Are you,

Alberto Rosende

you know what? I, I can't answer that.

Young Hollywood

Okay, good answer. Strong answer. And this is your third time in LA.

Alberto Rosende

My third time. But my first time that I have more than three days here.

Young Hollywood

Okay. And you have to be here for more now.

Alberto Rosende

Yes. This is gonna, this is gonna happen. It's, it's been, I'm spending more and more time here.

Young Hollywood

Right, right.

Alberto Rosende

And I'm liking it more and more.

Young Hollywood

You should, it's a lovely place. California's a lovely place. I was born and bred here.

Alberto Rosende

Really?

Young Hollywood

No.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. I was about to say, your voice sounds a little.

Alberto Rosende

A little. I see Texas. I don't, I don't see California.

Young Hollywood

I get that all the time. Totally Texas. Totally Texas. And the cast of the show is, is amazing, amazing, like young.

Alberto Rosende

Oh, that's the best thing if you ask me.

Young Hollywood

Very good-looking cast.

Alberto Rosende

Yes. Yes. It's intimidating.

Young Hollywood

It is intimidating.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah. One of the things I was worried about going to Toronto and showing up with a cast of people that I've seen before and like Isaiah Mustafa, the old Spice guy, oh my gosh.

Young Hollywood

I know him. I've had him on this sofa. Not literally, just interviewed him.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, yeah. Okay, okay, cool, cool.

Young Hollywood

It was, it was work-related. It was work-related. But I totally would, now.

Alberto Rosende

Well, Isaiah, you know. I mean, he's a very good-looking man.

Young Hollywood

Very good-looking man. Ultimate man. He rides a horse amazingly well.

Alberto Rosende

Ultimate man. Yes. He does it sometimes and he's tricked out with diamonds. Yeah. Yeah. But that will live with him forever. And he enjoys it. That's the best part. But coming into that cast, I was worried that they were gonna see me as like the new guy and not accept me. But when I walked in, it was just walking into a room of like your best friends that you hadn't met yet.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

The first night, me and Dom got dinner. The second night, Dom, Em, I, and as more people got to Toronto and for set, we just, it just like fell into a group that we've kinda created like a family.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

It worked out really well.

Young Hollywood

It's brilliant. Any, uh, any fun onset stories that you could share? Anything happened that that you could talk about?

Alberto Rosende

Yeah, there's a couple of pranks.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Alberto Rosende

Which, I knew there'd be pranks. If Dom's on a set.

Young Hollywood

If Dom's on a set, there's gonna be pranks.

Alberto Rosende

And he's the one, of course, that, you know, he kinda took me under his wing on set. He's like, this is how set kinda goes.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

So, he made pranks seem kinda like a thing that happened. He was like, pranks will happen.

Young Hollywood

He's the naughty boy at school.

Alberto Rosende

He's the naughty boy. Yeah. He's the one that gets me in trouble.

Young Hollywood

Right. And what was one of them?

Alberto Rosende

This one time, Dom for some reason, I had just been called to set. But he was very adamant about me going to my trailer. He's like, you need to get something from your trailer. And I was like, no, no, I have to go on set. So, I went to set. And then the scene we shot ended up taking up two hours, three hours. Then I go back to my trailer and my whole door is taped shut. Um, there's like umbrellas taped on the side so it's like sticking out open so I can't really get to my door.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Alberto Rosende

I have to like close the umbrellas. And then when I opened my door after getting all of the tape off of it that said some uh, some profanity.

Young Hollywood

Okay. It wasn't like hello and welcome.

Alberto Rosende

No, it was it was like welcome but in a very, uh, R-rated way.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Alberto Rosende

Yeah. And then inside was just the smelliest trash can.

Young Hollywood

Oh, no.

Alberto Rosende

So, I walk up and I'm like, oh my gosh. Dom walks out and he feels terrible because he thought it was only gonna be there for like ten minutes.

Young Hollywood

Right.

Alberto Rosende

So he didn't think it would stink up for the whole like set of trailers. But,

Young Hollywood

Right, right.

Alberto Rosende

yeah, three hours later. Okay. Pretty, pretty dank.

Young Hollywood

It's good to know. When Dom comes in, we're gonna think of a way to get him back.

Alberto Rosende

Yes. I got him back kinda. We had one really long day where I knew that he was gonna be there 'til like 4:00 in the morning. And I was done at like one.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Alberto Rosende

So, I took Nutella and I put it all on the inside of his door handle. So, at 4:00 in the morning when he finished and he's exhausted, it was like a fighting day.

Young Hollywood

Okay.

Alberto Rosende

He, uh, he had to put his hand in and, of course, he got full of Nutella. So, he looked like

Young Hollywood

it doesn't sound like a prank to me. That sounds like heaven.

Alberto Rosende

No, it was awful because he couldn't, he had to like get stuff off and he couldn't do anything. So, he had to have someone wash his hand for him while And it kinda looks like poo. And it that was the reason. It looked like poo so he was worried for a bit. Right. And it's not really you can't really take that chance and be like, hang on, I think it's poo or it might be Nutella. You don't want to smell it, you don't want to taste it. You just have to hope it's not either of those. And it was cold so you didn't know how long it's been there.

Young Hollywood

You're quite you're quite a naughty boy as well, young man, aren't you?

Alberto Rosende

I, I like to think that I'm

Young Hollywood

You've got the angelic face that you know what's coming next.

Alberto Rosende

That's what keeps me out of trouble. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm feeling a bit worried so, uh, I'm safe. I'm safe. Yeah. I wasn't here before. Okay. All right, yeah. So, we're good. Check him out. Shadowhunters.
