Any artists that you say we should listen to right now?
I'm obsessed with James Bay's record. So amazing. I'm obsessed. Hold Back the River. Yeah. Hold back the river looking in your eyes.
That sounded really lovely. I'm Oliver Trevena here on the Young Hollywood sofa, joined by the lovely Katie Stevens. How are you?
I'm good, how are you?
Um, exciting times. Faking it.
Faking it.
Is there a moment in life that sticks out as you faking it in real life?
Um, I mean, come on. You might as well be honest with me. I had a fake ID.
Oh, you did.
I had a fake ID, uh, when I moved to LA. Okay. So I guess that's faking it.
It's illegal, young lady. I don't I'm saying, don't do it. Yeah, look at the message that you're spreading. You you could get caught.
I didn't, but you could get caught, so don't do it.
Who was serving you alcohol?
No one. I'm not a big drinker.
Okay. Okay, that's good then. Um, so you just had the ID just for
It was just like to get in with my friends who wanted to go out.
Got you. See? You are smart. You are smart.
I am smart. But I'm trying to think. As women, we like fake things all the time.
I know. We like
So I've been told. My I live with my brother and he always laughs. He's like, I watched some YouTube video of this girl doing a makeup tutorial, and like, they always start the video without makeup on, and then they transform by the end of the video, and he's like, that's so scary cuz like a girl you meet out, you could wake up to her the next morning and she doesn't look the same.
Yeah, yeah, me and my friends, see, we carry around makeup wipes. To just go like We just give them to one side and we say, "Sorry, darling. Before we get started." Just like that. Let's talk.
Yeah. Yeah. But, um, yeah, I mean a bit harsh. That's probably a bit
I'm always honest.
Like when I'm on a carpet and people are like, "What did you do to get ready today?" I'm like, "I woke up, I ate breakfast, I took a tan out of a bottle from CVS, I rubbed it all over my body, and then someone made me pretty."
Nice. Nice.
So, I just I'm honest about it.
Sounds about right. I don't like how I'm, as you can see, I'm kind of pale. I feel like we have the same relationship with the sun.
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm Portuguese, so I should I should be tan. I should be
This is true. Yeah, that does make sense.
But my but my family in Portugal is they're all dark hair, light eyes, and light skin. Like no one's tan.
Okay. Cuz you speak fluent Portuguese as well, don't you?
Thank you. That's impressive.
Thank you. It's a lovely language. You're English. A lot of English people go to Portugal. I've been to Portugal many times. I'll speak it none.
Oh, I was gonna say you speak it. I was gonna fake it. Then I was gonna fake it. I realized I can't cuz I'm sitting with someone who can speak Portuguese.
You could say like, "Ola," is hello.
Yeah, I can do that. I'm talking about speaking it.
You're a big music fan as well.
I am.
Any artists that you say we should listen to right now? Always like to get shout out to.
I yes. I am obsessed with James Bay's record. So amazing. I'm obsessed. Hold back that river. I love that record. Yeah. Hold back the river, looking in your eyes.
That sounded really lovely.
I I love yeah, I love his record. Um, and then actually I like his song "Best Fake Smile."
Yes. Faking it.
Exactly. It's about faking it. And he's doing that on the show.
I know you have that on the show. Look at that. Would you consider yourself quite similar to Karma?
I mean, I think especially like people that I admire, like Meryl Streep, she always says that you do when you play a character, you bring some aspects of yourself to the character. So, I mean, I like Karma when I was 15. I tried really hard to fit in. Never going to the lengths that she goes to fit in. Right, right, right. But, um, I mean, she just looks at life in such a romantic way, which I think I I do too. I try to see the best in people. I if I didn't look at life in a romantic way, I don't think that I would be an actress, cuz I was able to be like, I could achieve a dream like that and and I did. And I think that's very much of how Karma is. But the way she goes about getting things is is a little a little wonky.
Is there a favorite moment of uh your and Amy's uh rollercoaster of friendship so far that sticks out, like one one moment that you like, that was amazing?
Um, I mean, first season we had the we had at the end of the season when Amy professes her love to Karma. So that that scene will always stick out in my mind, cuz filming it, we didn't know if we were getting a second season, so it was the last scene we had done together, so it kind of did feel like
The emotions were there.
The emotions were there. So, it's that that was definitely a good scene. But now, like, we have so much fun on set. So it's like every moment sticks out to be that cliche the cliche answer.
Good answer. Good answer. And you guys went up for the both went up for your role, right?
Uh, yeah. Amy. Yeah. Rita and I both went out for Karma and that's like how we met. So any audition process, we just looked at each other and we were like, "We look so different from each other that whoever this goes to, it's not gonna be a reflection of our talent, it's gonna be just who they wanted." And at our test for the network, they called they called Rita in to read for Amy. And I was like, I was the only one left there for Karma, but it was my first test ever, so I was kind of like, "Is this is this how this works? Am I getting eliminated too? What's happening?" Right, right. I still, even though I was the only person left there for Karma, I still didn't think that I got it.
And now you two are really close offset as well, right? Awesome. Yeah. I mean, that's what that's what a lovely what a lovely Hollywood story. I don't yeah. Cuz, I mean, you hear a lot of people that aren't close, and then you watch the show and you're like, "How do you fake that?"
Right. Right. Like if I didn't like someone, I mean, I guess like as an actor, that's just what you do. If you don't like someone, you pretend that you do. But
In real life.
Like yeah, like sometimes, I mean, I'm sure that there are people. I'm lucky that I'm on a set where I love everyone. Right. Um, but I'm sure that there are sets where people don't get along or aren't friends in real life, but they still have to fake.
Oh, right. I'm really honest. I just tell everyone, "I don't like you." That's how I'd get on. You're a
See, but if you but but I think it's different when you actually have to play a character.
Right, I guess so.
Like if I didn't like Rita and we still had to play best friends, I feel like that would be so difficult.
Yeah, I guess so. It must help. But it comes across on screen cuz you do look like you love each other.
Thank you. Literally love each other. We do. We love each other. Kisses. Loving. Yeah. Yeah, my mom. Well, that was the funny thing was the first kiss that we had to do at the end of the first episode. We like had the giggles and couldn't get through it. Right. And so now it's just like,
So it was your first time.
Yeah. So now so now we look at it and we're like, "Oh, we're making out today. Cool. Bye." Right. It's just no big thing anymore.
I don't know why at 34 this still gets me so excited. I just love girls kissing. I do. I find that I'm always getting auditions for girl on girl.
They just know that you're down for it. They just they just know. These guys haven't even got a movie coming out. They're like, "Let's just bring Katie in." Yeah. Yeah. "She'll kiss her." Yeah. I did I did Cruel Intentions: The Musical and I played Sarah Michelle Gellar's role and her and Selma Blair in the movie have that kiss. So in the musical we sang "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer. And we did that scene. So I'm just getting all of those roles.
I love the smile that comes on your face as well when you talk on a bit girl on girl kissing. I just think it's funny cuz I don't I as a woman don't understand what for straight males especially, what the attraction is with girls kissing.
Yeah, I don't understand either. It's just stupid. Don't get excited at all. It's just a girl and a girl kissing. What's the
Two pretty girls kissing.
Yeah, I don't get what the excitement is. It's just girls and girls. Girls kissing each other. Girls.
You keep saying it.
Do I? Yeah. Sorry.
I enjoyed this. I felt like we weren't faking it as well. This is nice. This was actually enjoyable. It was just a conversation on a couch. That's what it is. That's what Young Hollywood is. It is. It's a conversation on a couch. Faking it. She's lovely. Really. Seriously. I'm not faking it. No.
