Young Hollywood

I remember something that you said to me that really stood out to me. I've got three things that I can complain about and I'm not even going to complain about them to you. That's right. I really appreciate every living moment of being able to do what I love for a living. He's a multiple Grammy award-winning artist, singer, songwriter, and now mobile game mogul. Is that fair? Is that is is that a good way to introduce you? CeeLo Green everybody. Hangin' out with me on the couch.

CeeLo Green

Hi everyone.

Young Hollywood

I mean, you do so much stuff. I feel like I can't fit it all in to to one, you know, cohesive introduction.

CeeLo Green

That was pretty good though.

Young Hollywood

That was pretty good? Okay, all right, yeah. Well, welcome.

CeeLo Green

Pretty accurate. Thank you.

Young Hollywood

Uh you have a mobile game coming out, CeeLo's Joyride.

CeeLo Green

It's true. It is.

Young Hollywood

How did you even think to get involved in this space?

CeeLo Green

We saw that there was a market for it, a couple of different other entertainers. It seemed to be charismatic in that way in an opportunity that presented itself. Um and you know, inquire whether we'd be interested in that. We're like, of course. So, that was pretty much the simplicity of how it got started but it's a much more complicated process and um you know, I don't even understand how how these brilliant people actually work and make this thing all possible. But it is. I would love to show you guys at some point later in the uh in the interview.

Young Hollywood

Oh, definitely. Oh no, that's happening. That's happening.

CeeLo Green

It's pretty cool. It's called CeeLo's Joyride.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. And you are actually rolling through Atlanta in cars.

CeeLo Green

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

your cars?

CeeLo Green

Yeah. I'm a bit of a car collector in real life. So, uh they took the liberty of uh kind of stating some of my like my Packard, uh you know, and some other kind of cool cars that we just kind of created for for the game. And then a lot of uh historical research about just where I grew up in in Atlanta and different landmarks. You know, here there everywhere. And this it's really cool.

Young Hollywood

What's the objective of the game actually? Like what are you actually doing in there?

CeeLo Green

It's trying to get me to a show, to a performance.

Young Hollywood

Oh. Okay. Is that based on real life as well?

CeeLo Green

Sometimes it could be. Sometimes my real life could be a bit like a spinal tap. Have you ever seen that movie? But you got to get you to the show.

Young Hollywood

And then how do we actually do that?

CeeLo Green

Well, you got to gas up. You got to get your coins. You know. And there are a couple of different distractions and pitfalls on the way.

Young Hollywood

Okay. Like what?

CeeLo Green

Oh man, you can flip over going too fast. You just got to get your your gas and Yeah. Get it just right.

Young Hollywood

Okay, you got to get it just right.

CeeLo Green

It could be a little dangerous. But the good thing about it is, it's a game. You flip over, you break your neck, you can start all over again. That's why we play games so much on our phones and stuff.

Young Hollywood

How much of a gamer are you or were you before embarking on on this creative journey?

CeeLo Green

This has kind of gotten me back into it, you know, as a

Young Hollywood

Okay. Were you like an old school gamer?

CeeLo Green

Yeah man. I mean the last game I played was like Duck Hunt.

Young Hollywood

I I'm with you. I will still play Duck Hunt with you.

CeeLo Green

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and all all them old and stuff. You know what I mean? Yeah.

Young Hollywood

You mentioned other celebrities and musicians who've also been doing stuff in this space. I mean, is this kind of like the new frontier, you think, in terms of of creative people like you?

CeeLo Green

I think it can be. I think it's really essentially uh the new landscape of of industry and enterprise. It's just interactiveness. Whether it be uh social media, whether it be um you know, interactive games and such as this. I just it's just a way to kind of uh establish an intimacy with with the creative and the consumer. You know.

Young Hollywood

And this is not something that happens just overnight. Like you've been working on this for two years now, is that right?

CeeLo Green

Yeah. It's been a while because it's it's just about not only the product but the product placement. So, you know, we wanted to be able to pair with an album and, you know, this large sensation and hysteria going on around me at the moment.

Young Hollywood

Mogul is the right word for you. I think it's just kind of like encompasses everything.

CeeLo Green

Well, I'm kind of moving into that territory as well, too. I want to be able to do music recreationally. You know,

Young Hollywood

As a hobby?

CeeLo Green

Well, to some degree. Yeah. You know, you want to be able to do it for the the fundamental uh reasons of why you started. Not just for commerce. Not solely for commerce, you know.

Young Hollywood

Mhm.

CeeLo Green

Music is something that's supposed to be near and dear and and passionate. And sometimes you need the the living experience to cause that. So, we're kind of like inside of the bubble all of the time. So, you may as well, you know, maximize each opportunity. You know what I mean? All the ones that that are presented to you.

Young Hollywood

And the music in the game is from Heart Blanche.

CeeLo Green

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

How is the soundtrack different from anything that you've done before?

CeeLo Green

You know, the music um and the environment that it came from, which is really really compassionate and really um just genuine. And I uh I mean I typically try to to pull from that place. Yeah. You know, but sometimes it just falls sometimes sporadic, you know, um and on the spot. Like last night after the after the awards, I went to the studio last night and I did something cool too. So, Yeah.

Young Hollywood

I interviewed you a while ago actually. And and I remember something that you said to me that really stood out to me. Something along the lines of, I've got three things that I can complain about and I'm not even going to complain about them to you. That's right. And it sounds like something you'd say, right?

CeeLo Green

I say that all the time.

Young Hollywood

I I and it really stuck out to me because I was when I left, I was like, you know what? This is a guy who has really an attitude of gratitude.

CeeLo Green

No, I'm very I'm very gracious. I mean, I really appreciate every living moment of being able to do what I'd love for a living. You know, it's wonderful. I have no complaints.

Young Hollywood

Mhm.

CeeLo Green

Especially when somebody's doing better, somebody's doing worse. Don't you dare complain about being in the middle.

Young Hollywood

Has there been something really surprising about this whole development process of of a mobile game?

CeeLo Green

Well, I got to say, I got to just give credit where it's due to the partners and to the creators who brought that that opportunity to me. You know, I get the chance to just kind of be cool and uh oversee, you know, progress at this point, you know, to another point. But just the inner workings and the day-to-day, the diligence that they do is really impressive. These people are geniuses and you know, more often than not they go unsung and un and unnoted. So, I mean, Clark and those guys that they're brilliant.

Young Hollywood

And how has the ideas exchanged gone down? Is it something like, you know what, I like this thing. Let's do let's put it in here. And you like, you know, hammer out an email, you call them up and then you have a conversation about it.

CeeLo Green

Like I just kind of have to come in and do voiceovers or, hey, so give me some landmarks in Atlanta, Georgia where you grew up. I'm like, okay, JJ's Rib Shack or something like that. Yeah. You know, they incorporate it into it just to make it real.

Young Hollywood

Uh did you go back to Atlanta and and kind of like relive parts of growing up?

CeeLo Green

No, I remember. No, no. But I actually have been living in Atlanta though lately. Uh I've been um for the last few years. I was here like when I was doing The Voice.

Young Hollywood

Mhm.

CeeLo Green

Um I was I was here. And uh but now since I'm not anymore, I've kind of been going back home. And

Young Hollywood

Okay.

CeeLo Green

and being with family and being with friends and reacquainting. Yeah, it's been nice.

Young Hollywood

Mhm. Well, I'm excited to see what this game is all about. I think we're going to pull up pull up a little preview, right?

CeeLo Green

Check out this game, man. Because we are serious about having fun. Oh, I got to feel up. How do I do that? Oh no. Oh. Don't you hurt me, mama. What the

Young Hollywood

CeeLo, thank you so much for coming by. Thank you. Man of many talents and you can add uh mobile game mogul to that list. I think.

CeeLo Green

Absolutely. Very long list. Thank you so much.
