Um, it was really fun, you know, I really connected with her, uh, emotionally and, and, and just I felt like we had a lot of the same experiences and just feeling misunderstood and, um, some of the words that John had actually written in the book and that ended up in the movie, I had actually been had in my head and are thoughts that I had had. So, I was really excited to get to play.

One of my favorite things in the, in the movie is a completely, uh, improvised line where, uh, Huston says I'm more of a Charizard girl. And like that came from her. She was like, "We should say something about Charizard." And I was like, "Who is Charizard?"

I have to be honest, that stuck out in the movie for me as well. I didn't know if it was a Pokémon reference.

It is a Pokémon reference.

So, it did make sense. It did make sense. It was Huston.

Yeah. Huston has a huge Pokémon collection. So, this all comes very naturally for her.

Oh, obviously. Yeah, I still collect. I do. No, I don't. I don't. No. Not anymore. But I did when I was younger, I had a binder full of cards and Charizard was the hardest one to get. So, you'd sit there and like be like.

I love you so much. Pokemon. Brilliant. Brilliant. It's awesome. I mean, I had my own Pokémon when I was that age. Or Magic the Gathering, which was even way nerdier than Pokémon. Trust me. I'm lost. I just had sticker albums full of soccer sticker albums. Clearly, we were on a budget. Oh, it was like, "I'm actually cool." Yeah, I think we were just on more of a budget. They were the cheaper ones. They were lower end. Um, in the movie, there's, you know, some moments that stick out like the, the pranking, the saran wrapping the car in saran wrap and some other stuff, the eyebrow removal. Where do you get that from as a, as a writer? I hope it wasn't personal experience.

Um, some of it came from personal experience, but a lot of it actually came from my wife. My wife is a, uh, she's a brilliant revenge plotter, but she's also really good at,

You would never know. Like, that's why she's so good. I know. She's so nice. I don't know who this is a good face. I don't know who this is. She has these evil ideas but she's such a sweet person. I'm worried for you.

Which in England we don't have proms. Yeah, I'm sorry. It's so bad. I don't know why we haven't jumped on that bandwagon either yet. Cuz I go back and I always say to my nephews and stuff that they've done the prom thing now. That's really sad. It's really sad.

I actually didn't have really a real prom either.

Um, no, I went to an all-girls high school. You

No, I got that from an all-girls,

I went to an all-girls high school and so, um, I was really excited to actually have a prom with Paper Towns and I think it since it was we actually shot it at the end of the movie also and so, at that point we had all just become so close and, um, we're such good friends that it it kind of felt like like a senior year prom and and it was a good way to wrap everything up and spend it together.

If you were to have your own prom, what would be your first song for the, for the dance, your first dance, what song would you pick? Good question.

Um, I think it was actually really fun. Jake Schrier, the director onset, had put together a playlist of the vibe he wanted it to kind of feel like when we were dancing and he played some 80s music, which was fun. He played a lot of Whitney Houston. So, and it got everyone dancing because everyone knew the songs. So, it wasn't anything trendy. Um, it was just a classically fun song and so, maybe something like that.

Okay. Whitney.

My first dance with my, uh, wife, um, was to a Ryan Adams song. My wife and I already know how to dance to it and I wouldn't want to try to learn a new song. You don't want to do that.

Um, in the movie you have a, there's the lady in red plays, which I love. I was just sitting in the screen and being like, yes. I haven't done this for ages.

That was, that was all Jake Schrier, the director. And he felt that way very strongly from before we even started to shoot. He was like, "Lady in Red muzak is getting in this movie." And I was like, "Good luck, man." I don't I think that's a long shot. But he made it happen. Made it happen very well. And there was, uh, everyone in the screening was kind of like doing this. This is just a song that you can't not love.

Um, I can sit here and talk about Paper Towns forever. I love it. Um, go watch it.
