We've had Don Draper and Walter White and and Dexter and so on. It seems like we're in a new era of anti-heroes, but we're also in an era of I think some of the best television that's ever been made is being made currently and and over the last few years. So it's an exciting time to be an actor.

Some of those rules are kind of like Robin Hood, like so does wrong but it's so right.

Well, there is there is that. I mean, doing the

No. Just to clarify, just to clarify. That's season six. Yes, season six. That's where it all starts. That's that's that's where we go to the fictional land of Al. Yes.

Good. Good. This is this is lovely, isn't it? This is

It's been a long time coming.

Yeah, it has. We've been friends for a very, very long time. So it seems weird that we both have to be professional and pretend that we're dignified grown-ups right now.

We don't. We If we don't, I think we have to close off.

Yeah, do it. Let's do it. Um amazing. Amazing. It's good good to see you. And the reason you are here is because you're Robin Hood.

Yeah. What a great way to come on the show.

Yeah, how great is that? It's brilliant. It's brilliant. It's amazing. Pretty exciting. If you're going to play a role. Yeah, I I I I often I use the the expression of this is probably the closest thing. I mean, I think of Robin Hood as sort of a medieval James Bond. Right. Right. And I'm a big Bond fan. So getting to play uh you know, a a legendary character like this is just it's a bit of a your Christmas and birthdays at once. There you go. All the time. Every day on set. Every day it's a joy.

And you rock the outfit very well.

You do. You do.

Yeah. I am actually wearing tights underneath my costume just to just to keep keep the character going. Just to keep the spirit of Robin Hood alive. Right. Right. Right. It's good. Um and the and the storyline that you've got it's very uh very interesting. You're in love with one woman. The other another one's pregnant.

Yeah. It sounds like an usher song.

It is. It's it's actually Usher's upcoming album. Confessions. I'm in love with a wicked witch and an evil queen. There you go. Yeah, it's a it's a strange storyline. And I I know that a lot of the fans kind of didn't like it initially. Some of them still don't like it. But it's funny cuz a lot of people say to me, "Well, why can't they just be happy? Why can't Robin and Regina just be happy?" And I'm like, "Well, well, let's play that out. If they were, so the episode is Robin and Regina start with lunch. Uh, they go to IKEA for a little while. They sit down, have a couple of glasses of wine, and then they sit and watch Dragons Den together. Okay. Right. And nice happiness. And that to me that's a good day. Doesn't get renewed. But but that might not be great for the viewers of the show otherwise. I think sometimes people forget because they love characters and will them to be together so much that you forget that the nature of what we do is making a drama. And so we need these heroes to face obstacles so that they can overcome them. Right. Right. People want the fairy tale. You can't always have

You can't always have it. You can't always have it. So now you're regular and you're you know, all the time now. So

Yeah, so exciting. And proud to to be a a regular member of the team. And you know, it's just it's such a lovely show to be on mainly for there's many reasons but the main one is the people. Right. The cast are just such a good bunch.

Lots of people.

There's a lot of people. Lots of people. It's huge cast. It's insane. Yeah. It's it's it's enormous. Like the call sheet. I've never seen, you know, cuz we have character numbers one, two, three and and you know, there's character character number 108. And you're like, oh my God, this is just like miss Saigon or something. People flooding the stage. But um but it's great. And I think the guys Adam and Eddie who run the show, you know, you know, having been one of the senior writers on Lost. They know how to juggle multiple plots and multiple characters. And um they just do an incredible job. I read they paint themselves into corners. And I kind of as an actor think, "How are you going to get out of this?" And when I see how they do it, you just think, "Well, that's why you do what you do." And I just say what you tell me. And you wear the tights.

Then you wear the tights. That is why you do it. Um and that that being said on a show, you know, normally it becomes like quite a tight-knit family. Is that Is it different on this show because the cast is so big?

No. I I think cuz obviously I wasn't there in the first and the second season, but uh over the course of I mean, we're in season five now. I think at some point, I think it was around episode two or three, the weather was really gorgeous. And we were sitting outside at lunch. We all ate lunch together. And then we were waiting for some technical aspect. So we all started playing cards and playing music and stuff. And even Ginny Goodwin was like, we've never done this before. I think even now in season five, we're becoming even tighter and more collegial and and enjoying each other more. And and also I think because a lot of us have have had children or having children, things like that really bring you together. And and so I think most of the time behind the camera, we're talking about formula and baby makers.

baby makers.

Yeah. We don't have to talk about baby makers. If you want to know about baby makers, come to me. Um you know, baby products and strollers and stuff like that. And it's just it's just a wonderful atmosphere and and we've got such an extraordinary crew that work crazy long hours and and just bring such a a highly polished product every time. So that's why I have to give a a shout-out because those guys just work I don't know how they do it. We we get it pretty easy as actors, I think.

How long does it take to get to to become Robin Hood? Cuz you've got you've got you've got a nice costume there.

Oh, it's a lengthy process. The prosthetics go on about 4:00 in the morning.

And then the package. Well, no. That that's flown in. That's flown in.

Oh, okay. Got it.

And then we no. I I mean, for me, I'm pretty lucky. I don't have to.

You're pretty lucky. You are pretty lucky. I can vouch for that.

We uh I I I I it really I mean, if it's the traditional Robin Hood costume, that takes, you know, probably about 15 minutes to get into cuz there's just lots of layers. But you know, I have it relatively easy. Bobby Carlyle who who plays Rumpelstiltskin has a good hour and a half or two hours in makeup to get the Rumpel gear on. And then it's a good hour to get it off. So it's just one of those shows. You know, don't don't moan because the guy beside you's got it twice as hard. And so uh and and he's just the coolest guy in the world as well. So it must just be hilarious when you're when you're all sitting around normally. And then you'll come out and you're like, "Right, let's do this." It's just you know, it feels a bit like sometimes because we leave our trailers and we work at this big studio in Vancouver. And sometimes we have to get like a little bus to whatever studio we're at. And we're in if we're all in the traditional costumes, you kind of feel like Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman. It it's taken me a long time to kind of go, "Okay, this is normal and fine." And and as a result, because it's it's it's drama. And it's it's heightened drama. There's something in me that whenever a scene ends, especially if it ends on a question, I guess it's just my goofy nature that I always want to make jokes. And you know, cuz they're long days and stuff like that. And then you realize, no, other people are trying to create a mood. And then you're coming in with your stupid. They're like, yeah, she's in character now. Leave her alone and stop being daft. But um but no, it's just it's just I mean, it's make-believe at the highest level. And you know, I'm playing Robin Hood. I used to run around my garden. I actually made a bow and arrow which was not very good in my garden when I was about seven years old, thinking I was Robin Hood. So to actually dawn the costume and to to have people come up to you and go, "You're Robin Hood." It's just like

And then when you look at previous Robin Hoods and now you're uh you're newest one.

Yeah, it's a pretty impeccable list. It's it's weird. I I I'm not sure how many Robin Hoods uh that I can think of actually had a real English accent up until me. So cuz a lot of people like, "Are you are you nervous? You're intimidated." And I was like, "No, I'm the only one with a real English accent." I'm going to ace this.

Um but yeah, I mean, it's just it's just such a gift. At the moment right now, if you could get on any show, what would it be? If you could jump across. The first one that comes to mind is probably House of Cards. Okay. As Robin Hood. That would be good. That would be brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I could just I could just shoot Frank Underwood with an arrow. Um I I I I think I love that show because it's just so compelling. And the acting is so first rate. The writing's brilliant. There's a but there's I've said this a few times. I just think we're in a new era of television. I think cable has really changed the the base model for And I think especially um the Sopranos to me was one of the first shows with the character Tony Soprano, which was the first character that I can really remember in recent years who was not a good guy. And yet we willed them to win. It's an odd dichotomy. Um and I think since then, we've had Don Draper and Walter White and and Dexter and so on. It seems like we're in a new era of anti-heroes, but we're also in an era of I think some of the best television that's ever been made is being made uh currently and and over the last few years. So it's an exciting time to be an actor.

About about a week in advance.

Okay. It's it's not it's not a huge amount of of time in advance. But that's because the guys in the writing room are still adjusting and and and even once we get the script, we receive blue pages and pink pages because they're constantly rewriting. And even after we've shot stuff, they'll look at it in the edit and go, "That's not quite right." Or we need to make an adjustment. And then we'll have to reshoot stuff. So it's it's not uncommon to be called in on a on a Saturday and and have to redo stuff, which is which is tough. But that's, you know, it's part and parcel of the gig.

Yeah. Nature of the beast. So I think uh the best thing we can do now is you show me how to be an actor, I think. On green screen. cuz you're an act we know that, but if you want to if you want me to show you my delicate and silky skills on the green screen. Can you do that?

I will do that. We can do that. Cuz I think we need four points of light, but I got a chance.
