Hey guys, Erica Roth here in the Young Hollywood Studio with Lisa Edelstein. Welcome.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Thank you.

Young Hollywood

So, congratulations on the second season renewal. Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yes. We're very excited. Yes.

Young Hollywood

That is so amazing. So you play a character, her name's Abby. She's married, she's got like picture perfect life. Got these two awesome kids.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yes. So far, so good. And then what happens? And then her life disintegrates. I mean, basically, she's about to drop a book, I think that's how you say. I know you say drop an album, but I don't really know if you say drop a book.

Young Hollywood

Drop a book.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Coming out with a book about how to keep your marriage sexy and, uh, and fun and revitalize, when the kids are in school and what's really happening in her life is that her marriage has completely fallen apart. And so in the very first episode when you meet her, it's sort of gets exposed, she spends a night with a young guy. Her husband already has a girlfriend. He gets really mad when he finds out about the guy. They get in a huge fight. They tell the kids they're getting a divorce, everything blows up and finally at her very first book signing, she outs herself to the world as being a liar and that her book is full of bullshit and she can't stand by it. And basically destroys her career and it becomes a sort of a viral video on YouTube. And then the series begins, really, with her trying to rediscover who she is, to find herself, to pick up the pieces, to kind of find what hurt, the definition of herself is without the very things that she thought were her.

Young Hollywood

That is great. We will get that all signed up and out to you right away.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Well, hold on. Um, thank you, Jake, for being so magnanimous about the money. Um, but, uh, there's still things that we need to work out.

Young Hollywood

Such as?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Such as sleepaway camp.

Young Hollywood

Okay, I don't have any notes on that, Abby. We had this discussion.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yeah, we had this discussion, but it was never resolved. I don't want the kids going away in the summer. It cuts into my already limited time with them. A deal breaker for me. My, my experiences at camp were very formative.

Young Hollywood

Do you have any similarities with your character Abby?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Sure, but there's a lot of ways when I play Abby that I use more of myself than I did say when I got to play Cuddy, uh, on House, but our limitations are different. Abby's a woman in her 40s who really she's been married her whole adult life. So, there's a lot of things that she needs to discover in the world that I lived out in my 20s.

Young Hollywood

I mean, I heard you were a little bit of a partier, back in the day. That's why I'm at the Young Hollywood.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yeah. I have street cred. And I have to be here.

Young Hollywood

You do. You're so funny.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

I am young to somebody. I think Jane Fonda thinks I'm young.

Young Hollywood

You're young to us. And I think she looks awesome. She looks amazing. Every time I see her, I'm like, what is she taking?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Green jumpsuit. I mean, who are you kidding? Jane Fonda.

Young Hollywood

In the show you have these amazing girlfriends. Ja'nine Groffalo is one of them.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yes. I adore her. I think she's fantastic.

Young Hollywood

She just crack you guys up on set?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yes. Yeah, although, yes, she does. She is a really funny person. She's not like a goofy clown, but she is, uh, she's very witty and very bright, um, and a great gal.

Young Hollywood

So I saw you on Watch What Happens Live. Yeah. And you were on there with Jack Taylor.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yes.

Young Hollywood

Are you a fan of Vanderpump or any of the Bravo shows? Like, do you, are you a

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yes. I have watched more Bravo now than I really ever did, but my mother watches all the Housewife shows.

Young Hollywood

Oh my gosh. I saw her calling. Do you even call it? My mother called it. If you haven't seen it, look it up because it's the after show on the. My favorite thing is she's so brutally honest. Like, she just has no filter. And she knows she's a Brooklyn girl. So she's so she's like, Jack, is your mother proud of what you do for a living? Yeah. I, I hope you're proud. You could tell he was genuinely like embarrassed. Yeah. You're just like, oh.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

I mean, I don't know what he's like as a human being. He's certainly somebody who's willing to be the bad guy on a reality show.

Young Hollywood

Now, would you ever do a show like Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or anything like that or your.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

No. I can't think of anything worse. I know Lisa Rinna. I, I run into her from time to time and I, I really, it was the first thing I asked her. She loves it. She's perfect for it.

Young Hollywood

I'm obsessed with those shows.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

She loves it. And you have to, that has to be the kind of exposure you're willing to have. That is not, that is not who I am as a person.

Young Hollywood

So really quickly, we're going to play a little game. Since you've been on those ten disaster dates. It's like you have a little bit of experience.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Well, that was actually my character. So, But.

Young Hollywood

Okay. We're still going to we're still going to get Lisa's Guide to Date.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Okay. I've been on plenty of dates.

Young Hollywood

Okay. What's the perfect first date to you?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Going for a walk.

Young Hollywood

Going for a walk. What are your thoughts on kissing on the first date?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Totally for it. Love it.

Young Hollywood

Okay. Yeah. What do you think about going Dutch on the first date?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

I think that, uh, you know, it's fine. I think when you go Dutch at the end of a first date, you're sort of saying, We're friends. Yeah. It's not do this again. I think it's nice to treat somebody. I suppose if whoever did the asking out can treat, but I, whatever, I like, I like the feeling of being treated. Okay. On a first date. I want to feel like somebody is really happy to share that meal with me.

Young Hollywood

Right. I actually don't like going Dutch ever. I, I think that one person pays or the other person pays. It feels weird to split it when everyone's a grownup and it's like with the server and you're like this card and this cash.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yeah, and there are occasions when it's just that's appropriate. But I think when you're on a date, either you take the date out or it's.

Young Hollywood

So someone has to treat.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Yeah, I feel like that's the right way to do it.

Young Hollywood

All right. What are your feelings about blind dates?

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

I've I've gone on many blind dates. I love blind dates.

Young Hollywood

Oh, so you do? Yeah, because I know a lot of people who are like so anti-blind date.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

Well, what's blind nowadays? You can Google a person. I mean, it's not like you're that blind.

Young Hollywood

That's true. Literally, are blind. Thank you so much for coming by. I can't wait to see the second season and to binge watch this weekend.

Lisa Edelstein's Guide

You better binge watch it.

Young Hollywood

I will. Thanks.
