They could tell me I was Harry Potter. I was like, I'm not Harry Potter. Like, you're Harry Potter. And I'm like, I I swear to you man, I'm not. I'm something I'm something, I'm not Harry Potter.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

The first movie was incredible because we built all those friendships. The second movie was incredible because we added in a bunch of new people, they were all awesome. And we got to be in Hawaii and play on the beach like all day and so that's like a dream.

Young Hollywood

The ending kept me up, Josh.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, I'm sorry. I know. I know. We changed we changed the ending and that was my ending.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Really? Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Wow. So thrilled to have Josh Hutcherson here. Hi. Hello. I'm such a huge fan of yours.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Oh, thank you.

Young Hollywood

I'm faning out. I'm completely faning out.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Hey, you know what? That's all right. I appreciate it. And it and it goes back.

Young Hollywood

You've been acting since you were nine.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

This is crazy. 13 years. Wow. Wow.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, it's pretty pretty crazy.

Young Hollywood

When you do a scene, there's something very natural about your acting, like when I watch your scene, watch you act, I think of Robert Redford. And I don't know why that is. But I think it's it's like there's a naturalness and there's something really

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Huge compliment.

Young Hollywood

You know, it's like a very being real in the moment and not and not overacting.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Sure. I mean, yeah, that's that's what I like to try to do. I'm happy it works sometimes.

Young Hollywood

Good really. Bubble wants to see. I've never done anything like this before. Is it really worth it? To become like them? Everything's going to be fine for us. I know. When you guys all got on set, it was like a magical, there was something truly magical. And I think people when they watch the film, they forget about the sort of behind the scenes and how that can sort of affect a performance or affect your.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Truly amazing. Coming into this kind of other world in a way and then physically and like emotionally and with the crew and everything, um, it was a really magical experience and and the beach was so beautiful, and like the small town of like 2,000 people and

Young Hollywood

Did you get recognized in that town? Or was it actually

Josh Hutcherson Talks

One time. I was I was walking through like the little the small downtown area and there's like little like three or four little kids, like little Panamanian kids, like hanging out in the street or whatever, they have little bikes and stuff. And they were opening and they went Harry Potter. And they kept telling me I was, they kept telling me I was Harry Potter. I was like, I'm not Harry Potter. Like, you're Harry Potter. And I'm like, I I swear to you, man, I'm not. I'm something I'm something, I'm not Harry Potter. They're like, no, you're Harry Potter. Because I'm like a white guy, like in like in a franchise movie. Like, you know, that means all of a sudden I'm Harry Potter. Like, I was like, all right, whatever. I'll take it. I've been called worse.

Young Hollywood

The last of the installment is coming out. How do you think this one will be a fresh take on any of the previous ones that we've seen?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, it's crazy. This thing. Well, this one, it gets so big in this one. I mean, you have a lot there's a lot more action in this one. Um, the third movie is kind of like the build to this finale kind of and and um, and for me, there was so much in the third book that if you would have done one movie, you would have sacrificed so much of the story and you'd have to cut so much stuff out. Right. And so I'm really happy they were able to split it and and really tell the the characters of what's happening and tell the character battle what's going on.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I watched Paradise Lost last night. Okay. Um, I lost a lot of sleep.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Okay, I understand. It's It's one of those films you can't I mean if you watch it late at night, it gets you really thinking.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, yeah. It makes you want to call your family, tell them you love them.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

No, completely. It's a it's a pretty intense movie.

Young Hollywood

But you play a kit I want to I'm very proud because I'm Canadian. You play a Canadian in this movie named Nick, and I'm Nikki. So I was like, thank you very much for giving props to my country.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

You're welcome.

Young Hollywood

No one ever go

Josh Hutcherson Talks

A Canada's got balls, man.

Young Hollywood

We do. Yeah. Look, I Nick has balls and he's Canadian. Thus Canada has balls. But didn't you say like you took on this role you or wasn't it he supposed to be Irish or something and you switched him and you're like, no, we got to give the Canadians some props. Yeah, get us some love.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

No, I mean as well as

Young Hollywood

I mean, we don't get enough. We don't get enough. We don't get enough. You really don't. Maybe it's your own fault. I don't know. I'm not I'm not here to

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, that's what it is. We're not claiming our own.

Young Hollywood

No, no.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

But um, yeah, the character's originally Irish and Irish accents are very challenging and and even when the greatest actors in the world take on an Irish accent, you're still like, I don't know. So even if even if they do it perfect, it just sounds so ridiculous sometimes that you're like, I don't think this is real. You know, I'm wrong. Right. Um, so I didn't really want to do an Irish accent. And uh we didn't want to make him American because there's something about American going in the Pablo Escobar world and the baggage of American. And there's something about the Canadian that was there's a sort of like an innocence about it that I really liked, no offense, that was kind of

Young Hollywood

We're not as nice as we seem, you know?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

I know. Look at Nick, he loses his shit and like totally goes for it, you know?

Young Hollywood

Nick loses his shit. Yeah. Well, he had to, he's forced to by circumstances. Nick gets some guns happening. He's got like, he's got a lot. He gets after it. Absolutely. That's a great way of putting it. Did you executive producer or you sort of like you you sort of um, did some behind the scenes?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, a little bit. Yeah. I mean, um, we kind of had some moments where we had to rewrite some stuff, sort of in a pinch and like we had to change so much of the ending and everything.

Young Hollywood

The ending kept me up, Josh.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, I'm sorry. I know. I know. We changed we changed the ending and that was my ending.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Really? Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Wow. So sorry, you're welcome. I'm not sure. Sorry is a very Canadian thing. You just said it like a Canadian. That was good. Yeah, I'm sorry. Um and you I read a quote that you said it made you hungry to do more. I'm like, you shouldn't use the word hungry. People are just going to like jump all over that.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

I know. The freaking punns. Yeah. The pun was just like, you know, right for the picking. I know you said I can't I can't I can't say hungry the rest of my life now. That's not fair.

Young Hollywood

You can't. You can never say you're hungry. I'm I need food. I'm I'm needing a food for this. I don't know.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Uh no, yeah, I I've always wanted to like, you know, get behind the camera and it was great to kind of give me a a leap into that world a little bit.

Young Hollywood

It's a phenomenal movie. Of course, Benicio del Toro. Benicio del Toro. You can't say it without an accent. No, you have to. You have to throw it in there. I didn't even know. I thought he was an urban legend. Does he actually exist?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

He does. He's in the other room.

Young Hollywood

Is he? Yes, yes. He really does because I feel like he's just this magical being that just appears on screen and becomes somebody else and he doesn't you don't see him otherwise. Like he's like he's like David Copperfield. He's an Egyptian.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

It's true actually. It's true. It's good though. I think it's good to have that kind of mystery. Um, no, Benicio is incredible. I mean, obviously, like uh he he actually directed me in a short film. Working with him as a actor director relationship was incredible and and we both have been given the script and and um, and he had kind of said that he wanted to do it if I was going to do it, which I was like, Benicio Del Toro saying that to me. Okay, yeah. I'm definitely.

Young Hollywood

He said he'll do the movie if Josh does the movie.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because he'd directed me so he kind of we had a relationship and stuff, which is really cool. Um, but he was incredible in the movie obviously and and working with him, like he just he's so powerful and captivating and just like watching him like an acting class, an acting class where I don't know how I'm ever going to do what he does, but just like a fascination with it and he just finds like his own reality in every scene and then he like works on it with you and it's it's really a a collaboration that's awesome.

Young Hollywood

As an actor, I would think when you're doing something a smaller movie, you don't have as much time and you're sort of cramming things in more. Is it better not to overthink things or is it sometimes is it sometimes a little bit refreshing just to sort of dive into it or?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

It's refreshing. It's definitely refreshing. I I I personally like it when you don't have a lot of time because I don't like to overthink. I I will end up overthinking things.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

But there's definitely a balance because sometimes like you get I've been on movies you get like one or two takes and it's like I don't know what the hell I just did. And I hope that it was good. Right, right. Um and then sometimes you sit around all day and it's like you're just much free time and it's like it just you kind of fester in it instead of just being like in a natural moment, which I obviously like and prefer more.

Young Hollywood

Are you planning to import more junkies around here?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Junkies? Yankees? Uh yeah, uh maybe.

Young Hollywood

Seriously?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

I don't want to turn back. You can have it for free. Manuel. Are you serious? I not going out. That's amazing. Thank you. That's that's going to help us so much.

Young Hollywood

We got a couple of questions from your fans that I have to get in while I have you here. From YH Fangirls, what has been your favorite movie to film from The Hunger Games trilogy?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

I think Catching Fire. Because that one we shot in Hawaii for like a month and a half.

Young Hollywood

Oh, that's a good reason.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

We shot like other places too, but we shot in Hawaii for like a month and a half and that was like after the first movie, we're kind of like the first movie was incredible because we built all those friendships. The second movie was incredible because we added in a bunch of new people, they were all awesome. And we got to be in Hawaii and play on the beach like all day. And so that's like a dream.

Young Hollywood

That's another thing people don't Yes. But watching it, it was fun too. Watching the you know, the the sort of jungle situation.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah, I know. It was fun. It was great.

Young Hollywood

OTPs Del Munda wants to know which actor or actress would you like to work with that you haven't.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

I love Tom Hardy. Like I I I just saw Mad Max and and like he says like four lines in the whole movie, but he's so good. Like Bronson and like all this stuff like great getting a script four lines. He just the rest like. I'd be like, oh, great. Um, Tom Hardy's one. Daniel Day Lewis is one. I love Marion Cotillard. There's so many. I mean, I like I could list 100 people to know.

Young Hollywood

Wasn't Jake Gyllenhaal sort of like Jake Gyllenhaal. I think you said this before here at Young Hollywood.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's the one where I said I want to wear him like a unitard or something like that. I make like a really funny costume.

Young Hollywood

Did you say that? Oh, you can say it again. That's a good one.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

No, it's all right. They'll they can find it in the archives. Yeah. Okay.

Young Hollywood

Um and then Elliot from Manchester. He wants to know how how hard is it to play a complex character?

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Well, I think everyone's a complex character. I I always think when I'm walking down the street, every person I walk by, I'm like, your life is just as complicated as mine. You have as many crazy thoughts in your mind, you have as many problems in your life. So I think everybody's complex, so I think complicated characters are just good characters.

Young Hollywood

Can't wait uh for the next movie. This is a phenomenal movie. Paradise is incredible. Thanks for coming in.

Josh Hutcherson Talks

Thank you.
