Hey guys, I'm Brandi Chang. Here hanging out with Austin Stoll in the Young Hollywood Studio. How's it going, Austin?

It's going great. Good. How are you doing?

Very good. Thank you. So, uh, you're in Bridge of Spies, which just came out. We've got our guy, our spy pilot. We've got their spy. We want you to negotiate the swap. I'm an insurance lawyer. Are you good at what you do? This will be a first for both of us. You should be careful. So this is not the first time that you've worked with Steven Spielberg. Which is pretty incredible as an actor. Did you ever foresee that in your career?

No. Uh, I'm very lucky. I was in the right place at the right time and with the right character. You know, a lot of this world has to do with uh circumstance and and luck. And luck was in my favor for this, you know, doing public morals with him on TNT. Uh where he was the executive producer of that show and uh plucked me off that show to do Bridge of Spies, which is the dream. And and uh if I am dreaming, then don't wake me up.

We won't wake you up right now. We'll keep you sleeping. We have lots of pillows.

I was going to say, this is a comfy place.

Yeah, you can totally take a nap. I'll just hang out here in silence. Do you remember the first time that you met Steven?

I just need a comfy place to sleep. Yes, uh he came to set when we were shooting the pilot for Public Morals. And I was doing a scene with Ed Burns. It was uh that scene in the pilot where he's admonishing me for screwing up again and I'm telling him that if my father ever hits my mother again, that that's it. I'm going to kill him. So Steven popped by at that moment and it's like a bigger scene for me in the pilot and to have him be there, I felt his presence, but if anything, I think it made my my my performance elevate and that I I, you know, you want to impress Steven Spielberg, and you bring your A game.

Yeah, if he walked in the door right now, I would say I would probably feel a little bit of pressure as well. But maybe not actually. You'd be surprised.

You'd be surprised. Yeah. He's a very calming spirit about him.

Do you remember your first audition as an actor?

I can tell you the first one when I got here. I auditioned for Blue Mountain State. And I I had the papers in my hand. I remember at one point I was supposed to point uh at the at my fellow actor and when I reached across, my hand was going about a million miles an hour. Uh and I was like definitely not getting this.

Well, I think you're doing very I mean, you could just laugh about it. You know, and then as time goes by, you uh you become more comfortable and you understand yourself. That's fine. So what do you absolutely know about yourself? Like one's what is one thing that you feel like you have kind of figured out?

I am the most competitive person you have ever met.

I will be I will be devastated if I lose. I hate losing. Anything that involves winning and losing, I just cannot stand to lose. I I'm the youngest of three brothers. Okay. And I think that As a kid, you know you're smaller, you're not as smart. You know, you don't you don't have the car yet. Anything, you you want everything that they have. And I love my brothers, but I think that you know, that made me the way I am.

Right. What is the biggest thing that's changed in your life for the past few years?

Hmm. Well, I got a dog four years ago and I think that really changes your life. Well, A, it's the best excuse to leave anywhere. It allows you a get out of jail free card. You gotta take the dog out. My friend does it all the time. I swear. It works too. What are you gonna say? I have a living creature at home that I have to go take care of. I'm sorry. I must leave this dreadful party that I'm at right now. And uh so you you're you're out the door, but it also doesn't allow you to do things like take off for a random weekend or you know, it it keeps you close to home and puts you more on a schedule.

I have a game to play with you.

Well, because I'm thinking about the car chases that I just got to do this summer. I just did this movie called Stratton. Uh-huh. Uh, and we did a lot of car chases and I was going to tell you something funny earlier and I forgot to tell you earlier and uh It just flew out of my head. I did sheer the camera off the side of the car. So that's why they're okay. That was just now making sense. And then and I did feel I feel terribly about that and I had my iPhone running on the dashboard to like tape what was going on for that one take.

You did the whole, like you did your own stunts for that?

Yes.

That's pretty cool.

Yeah, it was, it was great. Uh yeah, boat chases, car chases. We got to like free climb a building outside, uh, you know, right near the Pantheon.

You have a really boring job.

I know, it's no fun at all. I'm sorry.
