How Honest Are The Truth About Christmas Stars?

Congrats on making this movie. I think it sounds so funny. It reminds me of Liar Liar with Jim Carrey. Who doesn't love that movie? And I love movies like this. Was this, were these fun parts for you guys to play?

I made some suggestion for you. The toxic stew. That's what they called it when they warned me about it on the telephone. Suddenly, I can't lie. That's hysterical. You work in politics. That looks right. I really love just the idea of the movie being so different from your usual idea of what a holiday movie is going to be. Like it has a romance, but we've kind of taken that idea, turned it on its head. It has a career-driven, you know, female protagonist, but we really kind of blur the line between protagonist and antagonist, which I really sort of like. It's a very antagonized protagonist. She went through a lot in the movie.

When she likes to be the bad guy.

Yeah, sometimes.

Because she's supposed to be helping you out and then all of a sudden she can't tell a lie anymore. Are you just breaking out?

Right. There's no help whatsoever. I need you to lie all the time.

Yeah. And it's Christmas. I can't.

I know. Santa, you know, you can't cross Santa. Don't cross Santa. That's that's the truth about Christmas.

Okay. What was your favorite scene to shoot in this movie?

I got to be the stand-up scene. It was an unexpected last-minute addition to the movie and it turned out to be really fun.

Yeah. Mine was the breakfast scene. Because we did it maybe a hundred times. And she was like as as the day progressed, she started to lose her marbles more and more. And it got to the point where like I was off camera, but I couldn't stop laughing. And people the other actors just add something new and I was crying, laughing. I couldn't look them in the eye. I would say my lines down to my stomach because if I looked them in the eye, it would kill them and I would ruin their whole take.

What would you say is the most challenging scene then? Would it be that?

Any any scene where we're working together. I was going to say that but then I thought maybe I should not. I'm so happy that you said that. Yes. It's very challenging to work with him. Challenging. She would just drive me completely nuts.

Yeah. And then when he was all off Kilter, I was like, this is great. I'm ready to do this.

So you started to feel more at home.

Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And then now that's how I would do it. Because she's just, you know, Callie is just very inherently funny.

Yeah. And I'm not.

What? You're really funny. So, so when you're working with somebody that's just inherently funny, you just have you learn a lot and and they just have to, you know, kind of pull some little funny bits out of you. And so I learned a lot working with her.

Now to play a character who is spilling all this truth. That's going to be fun. But what would it be like in real life for a day if you couldn't tell a single lie. Like it would probably be hard for the kids. You don't want to tell them Santa's not real.

I don't think it would be that hard for her.

Well, because I care about people's feelings and sometimes you can't tell them.

No, no, no. You're a pretty honest person. I would just have to say it. And she would look at me and she'd be like, What's wrong with your hair? I'd be like, what? What's wrong with your hair? It's like different today and then just walk away. No,

Right? Just walk away.

So like we said, I don't think it'd be a hard deal for her not to get to lie.

I care about continuity. So I was just wondering, oh yeah, you know, if that was going to be an issue. For him, you know.

Okay, last question. So obviously lying can be hard. I wanted to ask, how did you guys find out them that Santa wasn't real when you were a kid? Who told you? How did that experience go for you? Not that he is real, but who told you when you were little that he wasn't? How did you find that out?

No one ever told me the lie of Santa Claus. I woke up, you know, in the middle of the night to like go downstairs and and get something to drink and they were like, you know, like slaving over trying to like Christmas together. Not really, because you know what? You knew. I was still going to get the toy. You know what I mean? If Santa's not around, no big deal. So, I just pretended for like another year that like, you know, oh, let's put the cookies out. Oh yeah, what if he comes and all, you know, eats my cookies.

So they lied to each other. That's interesting. Instead of just telling them that you knew, you helped them carry out their lie even further.

I know. I'm that nice. That's the truth about Christmas, you know, it's like there's the lie and then there's the lie here. The lie that supports the lie also foster the fantasy.
