Mickey Novac here for Young Hollywood on the legendary Sixth Street in Austin at South by Southwest. We're gonna head into the after party of the world premiere of When Angels Sing, and we're gonna chill with one of its stars, Harry Connick, Jr. How's it going?
Man, it's great.
Did you did you hire the band?
I bring them with me everywhere I go.
Do you? Yeah, they put me to sleep at night in my hotel and everything. And I actually saw on your Twitter that you wrote that somebody said to you, you you look like Harry Connick, Jr.
I know. I I just, I never had Twitter before. Like a week ago, I just opened it up.
You just started?
I just started.
You have a lot of followers for having just started.
I don't even know how that works. I just my record company said, you have to start tweeting people. So I've been tweeting.
So someone told you you look like Harry Connick, Jr. And did you tell them you were actually that person?
I just deny it, no. It happens like every day. I said, I hear that a lot or, you know, I'm sorry for him or whatever I say.
Well, where would we likely find you in a place like this, a little bar, kind of hanging out. Is this something that you would regularly do?
You want the the truth?
I want the truth.
I'm the most boring person you've ever met.
Okay, tell me, give it to me. How boring are you?
I go back to the hotel and I go to sleep. I mean, I don't
Me too. Do you? Yes. So When Angels Sing, it's getting so much buzz. And what I love is that it's a Christmas movie and we're in March. We're in March right now. And in Texas, it doesn't feel very Christmassy. It doesn't feel Christmassy in in December in Texas. We're talking ask you a very important Christmas question, okay? Is regifting okay?
Absolutely.
Okay, good.
Do it every year.
Have you done you do it?
Of course.
Do people catch you out?
I'm I my entire outfit is a regift.
Are you serious?
Oh yeah, of course.
Has it ever come full circle, you regift and it comes back to you?
It hasn't and I pray to God it doesn't. That would really The idea of it's okay, but it in in practice, if that ever happened to me, I think I would have a heart attack.
So let's talk about working with Connie Britton, Willie Nelson. Had you worked with with Willie before?
I had never met either of them until we did the movie. So, I mean, Connie is she's she's really incredible. I mean, she's a great technical actress, but she's so charismatic. She's having a phenomenal year.
So Willie Nelson in this film, he plays a bit of a mysterious character at first. You want the tour or not? I'm a busy man. Come on. Tell us something like debunk the mystery of Willie Nelson for us. Tell us something fun about him that we don't know.
Well, he's he really is a mysterious guy. Like I mean, I spent a lot of time with him on the base camp, which is where all the trailers are set up. My tour bus was next to his tour bus. He's kind of like the character in the movie a little bit. Like you you kind of comes and goes. You know, he's he's a very mysterious guy, but when you do hear him speak or when you hear his music, it's it's very powerful.
So I have a a question for you based on the movie. Okay. So in the movie, he sort of gives you the keys to this house for a very, it's a beautiful house. The reasons come about later. But if I was going to hand you the keys to a house, I'm going to give you three options, okay? And you're going to tell me what your dream house would be. Either a slope-sided Aspen, a nice little cabin. Beach house in Fiji. Penthouse you on Central Park.
Oh, man. Right now?
Right now.
I'd take Central Park. Oh, really? Yeah, only because it definitely would never be number one. I'm not a mountain guy. But if my kids were older, it would be number three, number two. I'd take Fiji in in a heartbeat.
Have you been?
Oh, yeah, I've been there. It's amazing. But I can't do that now. Like maybe in a few years. But I I'd have to take Central Park.
So Austin, such a
And why are you assuming that I don't have keys to those places already? That's the real question.
Okay, so here's the real question. How many of the three do you actually have?
I'm not going to answer that.
Are you going to pull a Willie Nelson? You're going to be
I'm not going to tell you. That's a new that's a new. That's the new thing. That's the new thing pulling a Willie. You know, Justin Timberlake had bringing sexy back. I'm a pull a Willie.
You're going to pull a Willie? So one band we got to listen to or check out. We're checking out.
My band. We're going on tour in June.
There you go. Yeah, that's it. You coming to LA?
Uh, I will be in LA uh, sometime before the end of the year. Record comes out in June and then we'll be on tour for that. You got to come see us at Young Hollywood.
Let's go. Terrific. Let's go down. Let's go to your beach house first. Let's go. Fiji and then New York and then Aspen. We'll see y'all in about three weeks. And he's going to pull a Willie. The whole time.
