When Chucky Met Annabelle...?
You heard it here first, folks! That’s right, the creator of Child’s Play, Don Mancini, is putting the word out that he would like to make a Child’s Play/Annabelle crossover film! No word yet on if Annabelle and The Conjuring director James Wan is into the idea.
In case you don’t remember Child’s Play, allow me to fill you in, but you are probably already familiar with this little redheaded ball of fun and joy:
Yeah, Child’s Play is a series of horror movies revolving around the trials and tribulations of serial killer named Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray (voiced by the immensely talented Brad Dourif), whose soul is stuck inside the body of a child’s doll via voodoo magic, of course. In that same spirit (no pun intended), Annabelle just hit theaters recently, so I’ll assume you know that she is a creepy-looking doll which a demon has latched onto and terrorizes many people. In case you haven’t heard of Annabelle:
With no confirmation of a crossover movie in the works, there likely isn’t a plot in the works at this point either… but what if there is? I mean, Chucky is evil, but Annabelle is on a whole other level of demonic possession, literally. It’d be fun to see Chucky try to go head-to-head with Annabelle and rack up a kill count. But first Chucky would have to set Annabelle free. After all, if Chucky hears about another doll in town terrorizing people, he’s going to want to at least meet them. So, Chucky will have to set out on an adventure to the Warren household (see The Conjuring) and let Annabelle loose onto the world. Seeing that Annabelle has abilities he could never understand, he’ll either want to out-do her in number of kills or just take her out all together, thus ensuring he’s top of the toy chest. Given that Annabelle has more supernatural abilities than Chucky, it’d be an interesting fight scene to say the least.
What might be even better is if, after meeting each other, Annabelle haunts the living hell out of Chucky, causing him to seek therapy, and then realize that the reason why he needs to kill is because he never received the right amount of love from his mother. This realization, of course, leads him into the arms of Annabelle, the only doll he’ll ever need. A horror/psychological thriller/romantic comedy movie for the whole family!
I don’t know if this news will ever see the light of day; it’s all up to James Wan. What I can say is that Don Mancini seems to have hopes that it will come true. For one, I’d be happy to see it. I love crossovers. I’ve even seen the two-hour crossover special of “Murder She Wrote” and "Magnum P.I.”. Freddy vs. Jason is a classic horror movie for my friend, his brothers, and myself, partially because it’s a crossover and partially because it’s hilarious. (Bruce Campbell, I’m still waiting to see Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, by the way, and don’t think for a second I’ve forgotten about the Ash and Mia Evil Dead crossover!) So yeah, a crossover always sounds good to me.
Until we get anymore updates, I will leave you here with this (Warning! This is graphic toy violence!):
