TV FROM AROUND THE WORLD: “Misfits” (U.K.)

Think you’ve watched all the great science-fiction TV shows out there? Well, you might’ve missed one great one and not known it! In 2009, the U.K. channel E4 premiered the show “Mistfits”, about a group of young offenders serving community service who gain superpowers during a freak storm during one of their shifts.

The show is definitely a comedy, though one for a more mature audience. It tackles a lot of adult topics through hilarious and strange situations and can be pretty violent, so there’s your warning for that. The cast is amazing, and in the first few seasons, it features a few actors you might know from other shows. Robert Sheehan plays Nathan, the standout of the first 2 seasons, and you might recognize him as Klaus from another great sci-fi series, “The Umbrella Academy”.

Iwan Rheon, who played the horrifically cruel Ramsay Snow in “Game of Thrones”, plays Simon, who is pretty much the complete opposite of Ramsay in every way. Antonia Thompson, who you can see as Dr. Claire Browne in “The Good Doctor”, plays Alisha, and in Season 3, Joseph Gilgun joined the cast to play Rudy. You might know him as the sarcastic vampire Cassidy in “Preacher”.

The show ended in 2013 after 5 seasons, and each season has from 6 to 8 episodes. But luckily for you, the show is currently streaming all seasons on Hulu! If you love off-kilter humor as well as some good sci-fi, then this is for you. It’s a great show, and one I am always recommending to my friends. Check it out!
