SUNDAY MUSIC VIDS: The B-52's
Written by Katie Marzullo. Published: September 02 2018
Let’s face it –
the B-52s are just fun. And since Summer
is coming to a close, who better to score your epic summer send-off
than the ultimate party band?
The Athens,
Georgia-based New Wave group have been blowing minds and melting
faces since the ‘70s with their trippy post-punk sound and
indecipherable lyrics (we still haven’t figured out what the hell a
“Rock Lobster” is outside of the local seafood joint). These days,
you cannot attend a wedding or prom without someone invariably
breaking out “Love Shack”.
(It goes
without saying that I have attended many weddings in my day, to the
point where I have developed a party-stopping interpretive dance to
“Love Shack”, but that’s for another day, friends...)
Not
surprisingly, the music videos accompanying their songs have been
equally whimsical (and often featuring RuPaul somewhere), showcasing the animated vocal stylings of lead singer Fred Schneider and his big-haired bandmates Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson.
Channeling some sort of campy ‘60s B-movie, the B-52s have a sound
and style all their own, and it’s been charming us out of our
Private Idahos for decades now!
