Coming off of its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, psych-thriller Saltburn is gearing up to be one of the most talked-about films of the latter half of 2023. Early viewers have drawn comparisons to the extravagant 2022 film Babylon, noting that the bold and wildly entertaining picture is not to be missed. Here’s what we know about the movie so far!
The Premise
The plot of Saltburn kicks off at Oxford University, a prestigious research university in Oxford, England. There, young student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself infatuated with one of his schoolmates, Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi). When the two connect and Felix invites Oliver to his family’s estate -- the movie’s namesake, Saltburn -- Oliver’s Summer and infatuation with Felix quickly spirals into one he’ll never forget. The film was produced last Summer at a gorgeous aristocratic sprawling estate in Northamptonshire. A special location, given that Saltburn is the only movie to have ever been filmed at the gothic-esque property.
The Cast
Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi are joined by other recognizable faces like Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan, and Richard E. Grant, who all play members of the eccentric family Felix brings Oliver home to. Keoghan, who plays naive Oliver Quick, is coming off an awards season run with The Banshees of Inisherin, which earned him a BAFTA, alongside Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. "Euphoria" star Jacob Elordi, who plays Felix, is a notable actor in his own right and has been garnering excitement for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, which just premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
Where & When To See It
After its successful premiere run at Telluride, the film will next head to the BFI London Film Festival in October. U.S. viewers can expect to see the picture starting when it begins its limited release on November 24th and expands to more cities on December 1st.
