Netflix Officially Renews "The Umbrella Academy" For Season 3!
The YA Superhero Squad genre is hotter than ever these days, so it comes as no surprise that Netflix has decided to renew the popular series “The Umbrella Academy” for a 3rd season!
The series, based on the graphic novel by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, follows the misadventures of 7 adopted siblings who were all born at the exact same moment on October 1, 1989, all over the world and raised by an eccentric billionaire to become a crime-fighting collective known as The Umbrella Academy. All the siblings have their own unique superpowers, with varying degrees of usefulness, which only seem to cause more trouble than help people.
The majority of the first two seasons revolved around a ton of time travel shenanigans, with the siblings getting caught in a variety of timeline mishaps, all of which seem to end in one result: the Apocalypse. Season 2 ended with the clan finally making it back to the current timeline, except with one major hiccup – their adopted daddy (who was earlier revealed to be an alien!) never adopted them at all and in fact started a whole different academy with seven other superpowered kids! Awkward!
With that reveal, it seems as though Season 3 will finally deal with a question I have had since the first scene of the first episode of the first season – where are all the other October 1 babies? The opening of the series explains that this phenomenon happened to a total of 43 women (all of whom didn’t even know they were pregnant until they went into labor), but we know of only the core seven. So what happened to the 36 other kids?? And what are their powers?? And what the heck caused the mass birthing?? Well, we might finally find the heck out!
No release date has been announced yet, but the 3rd season, consisting of 10 episodes, will begin production in February in Toronto. Stay tuned!
