"Locke & Key": Everything We Know About Netflix's New Comic Book Adaptation!

Written by María Calvo. Published: January 25 2020

The trailer for Netflix’s “Locke & Key” is already out and it looks like a mix between Narnia and Inception. And honestly, we are impressed.

Netflix is bringing a lot of surprises for this year, but one of them might have gone unnoticed: the adaptation for Joe Hill’s Locke & Key, a horror comic book series that has the potential to become one of Netflix’s highest successes. With its February 7th premiere date around the corner, let’s take a look at what this series has to offer!

Netflix’s description is pretty straight forward: "After their father's murder, three siblings move into a house filled with reality-bending keys." Every key has a hidden power, but a diabolical force that inhabits the house wants something from them. I’m getting major Coraline vibes here, but the story seems less fairytale-ish and more anchored to the real world.

Starring Jackson Robert Scott (IT), Emilia Jones (“Doctor Who”), and Connor Jessup (“American Crime”), the cast already sets the atmosphere for this chilling adventure.  However, the talent isn’t only in front of the screen: Carlton Cuse ("Lost", “Bates Motel”) and Meredith Averill (“The Haunting of Hill House”) are only a part of the huge team of showrunners who have been working on this first season, which will supposedly have 10 episodes.

Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, co-creators of the comic book series, have also been involved in the production, so long-time fans can rest assured that the original material will be respected. As an executive producer, Hill – who is Stephen King’s son, by the way -- said that portraying the magic of some of the keys was especially tricky, but that he is very happy with the result. And if he is happy, then we are thrilled to see the craziness that’s coming!

Hyped already? Check out the trailer here and be sure to check out the full series when it drops February 7!
