ICYMI: Matthew McConaughey & Anne Hathaway Reunite For a Killer Time in 'Serenity'!

When one hears the word "serenity", they tend to think of a state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled. Well, from the looks of the latest Serenity trailer, that is the farthest thing we're going to get in what promises to be one wild ride that will keep you guessing and have you on the edge of your seat until the credits roll.

Serenity has been described as a sexy, stylized thriller that reunites the Interstellar duo of Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, but instead of coming together to save humanity, this time they are coming together to commit one of humanity's most heinous acts -- MURDER. That’s right, the lovable Anne Hathaway and Mr. Alright Alright Alright are turning to the dark side for this noir-style thriller that looks to reignite the genre to start off 2019.

This definitely seems like one of those pictures where everyone is in on it except for the main character and the audience. It’s almost as if it’s looking to follow in the grand tradition of psychosexual thrillers that have brought the world such great films as Basic Instinct, Body Heat, and Fatal Attraction. These devilishly good mystery movies are classics and it is sad the industry doesn’t push out more of these types of films. Hopefully, Serenity will be the breath of fresh air moviegoers could use.

In this one, McConaughey plays a fishing boat captain that leads tours off a tranquil place called Plymouth Island. He goes by the name of Dill Baker, which is his best character alias to date, hands down. But not everything is so serene for Dill when his ex-wife Karen, played by a blonde Hathaway, tracks him down with a killer proposal. In fear of her abusive husband, she asks Dill to leave her husband for the sharks in exchange for $10 million. This thrusts Dill back into a life he’s tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a reality that may not be all that it seems.

The story will get you to buy a ticket but the performances will get you to stay. I mean, it is not hard to imagine when you get a look at the dream team cast this one has assembled. Two Academy Award winners (Hathaway and McConaughey), two Academy Award nominees (Diane Lane and Djimon Hounsou) and, of course, Jason Clarke, who will surely one day get the Academy’s attention. It is also written by Academy Award nominee Steven Knight, who is also in the director’s chair. Between the chilling preview, enticing synopsis, and a stellar cast, missing out on Serenity will feel like you have been left out in the sea as shark food.

Serenity opens in theaters on January 25, 2019.
