Grab your iconic red scrunchie, Heathers fans. The long-awaited “Heathers” TV series is finally coming to Paramount Network!

Loosely based on the cult classic '80s film of the same name, the series takes place at Westerburg High and revolves around Veronica Sawyer (Grace Victoria Cox) and her battles against the Heathers -- Heather Chandler (Melanie Field), Heather Duke (Brendan Scannell), and Heather McNamara (Jasmine Mathews). Veronica meets JD (James Scully), a new and troubled student at Westerburg, who becomes her love interest. Together, they plot to take down the Heathers, but JD’s plans and methods are a little bit more… intense than Veronica’s. Of course, chaos ensues. Check out the new trailer:

The show was originally set to air in March of this year but was delayed after the horrific school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The series was then set to hopefully premiere in July. But, in June, Paramount Network announced that the show was being completely scrapped due to its many sensitive and topical issues. The network was worried about the content of the show and therefore decided to shelve it.

BUT, as of this week. Paramount has announced that the show will now air after all. The series will premiere on October 25 on Paramount Network as part of a 5-night event. 10 episodes were originally filmed, but only 9 will be released. According to series showrunner Jason Micallef, Episode 10 was “considered too controversial for U.S. audiences”. Episode 9 and 10 have now been edited to combine the two, with certain scenes edited out. It is said that the content of Episode 10 was too graphic and intense (we believe it would have been the episode where the school blows up), so the episode has been edited to end on a cliffhanger after Episode 9. All 9 episodes will be available to stream on the network’s app and website on October 22.

As for the 5-night event on Paramount Network, it will begin on October 25 with two episodes airing each night. On October 29, after the season finale, there will be a “Heathers”-themed episode of “Lip Sync Battle” featuring Melanie Field and Brendan Scannell from the series.
