HIDDEN ON STREAMING: "The Society"

Hello, friends! I am back with yet another TV show for you to binge because that is clearly how I spend most of my time. Today’s recommendation is my newest addiction and comes in the form of my favorite type of television: teen drama. So cancel your weekend plans, it’s time to watch “The Society.”

“The Society” is a dark mystery about a group of teens that find themselves trapped in a town that looks exactly like their home... except that it isn’t. Everyone -- we’re talking parents, siblings, storeowners, even animals -- are suddenly missing. There’s no way out and no clues as to why or how this happened.

Of course, as you would expect in a world with no adult supervision, the teens' new existence starts out as a party but quickly takes a turn for the worse when it dawns on them that they’ll actually have to figure out how to build a functioning society completely on their own. What could go wrong?

While they’re trying to keep things together, the group also has to solve a murder, try to piece together where they are and how to get home, and for goodness sakes someone has got to learn some basic medical knowledge! A world with no parents is not as ideal as one might think… Send help.

I cannot adequately describe how consumed with this show I am. There is a huge cast of characters, so everyone can have their own fave, though there are some very clear frontrunners for least favorite. My personal fave is Grizz; once a varsity football player, he is now a key member of The Guard (you’ll have to watch to find out what the means) who is precious and gentle and learns how to say “kiss me” in sign language and refuses to kill anyone (I told you it was dark) and must be protected at all costs.

“The Society” deals with politics, domestic violence, sexism, and mental health all while serving up enough romance and mystery to keep everyone invested. It is one of the most intelligent and applicable teen dramas I have ever come across, even with its outlandish plot. Plus it stars Kathryn Newton, who plays Abigail on "Big Little Lies".

“The Society” is streaming now on Netflix, so book off the next 10 hours, because once you start, you won’t want to stop.
