The Halsey & Kelsea Ballerini Collab Is Finally Here!
“The Other Girl” is finally out… and we’re obsessed!
Both the music and lyrics are amazing – not that we expected anything less from the likes of Halsey and Kelsea Ballerini.
But how this did collaboration come to be? And what’s the song even about? If you’re a bit lost: don’t worry. Schroll down to find out!
We first found out about this collaboration via Instagram, when Kelsea posted the list of songs in her new album Kelsea. Everyone was super excited to listen to “The Other Girl” as soon as the news came out, but we had to wait until the 20th of March to finally get a taste of it. Was it worth it? Absolutely!
But the artists had a little surprise in store for us: their appearance together in the CMT Crossroads stage! They performed the iconic “Graveyard” from Halsey’s latest album Manic, as well as Kelsea’s “Homecoming Queen” – a song that Halsey herself said she wishes she had composed!
Their friendship started out of their mutual love for country music, but has come a long way since: “The first stage Kelsea and I ever shared together was a 3-foot karaoke dance floor right in Nashville. We’ve sang together in my living room, in her kitchen, in the back seat of cars in drive-through lines late at night. And this time we get to get on a real stage, one of the most iconic stages in history, and do the thing we love the most in front of a city that is so dear to both of us.”
Halsey’s words show us how deep their connection is and how special performing together was for her!
And Kelsey’s sentiments are as beautiful as her friend’s: “From hearing ‘Colors’ for the first time years ago to her playing the first cut of ‘Without Me’ in my living room last year, I’ve always been a superfan of Halsey. Her songwriting has a way of painting the most beautiful pictures and telling the most emotional of stories, and after becoming fast friends over wine and karaoke nights, I can’t think of anyone I’d rather share the CMT Crossroads stage with.”
As for the
song itself, “The Other Girl” deals with the insecurities that
arise when you’ve been cheated on. The lyrics are alluring and
graceful as the singer wonders how the other girl is and whether
she knew about her. Halsey perfectly matches Kelsea’s voice, and
the result is a powerful, heart-breaking song that might be one of
the best on the album.
I really wish we get to see more of these two together in the future, but for the moment we’ll be listening to “The Other Girl” on repeat! Hopefully next time, when things are less crazy, we will also get a music video – one can only dream!
