The original series ran on The CW from 2007 to 2012, and its creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are on board for the new project. WHOOO! Joshua Safran, who acted as a showrunner for original series in its later seasons, is also involved. He will write the new take as well as executive produce. The10-episode series update of the teen drama will be available exclusively on WarnerMedia’s streaming service, HBO Max.
When asked about any possible appearances from the original cast, Safron denied to comment, but we’re crossing our fingers! The logline for the new series reads, "Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.”
It has been 8 years since the original series aired, and we still have SO many questions.
1. Why does Chuck Bass speak in a whisper 100% of the time? And how did he become so sexy…?
2. Who was in the casket at Bart Bass’s first funeral if he was alive all along?
3. Were Dan and Blair EVER a good idea?!?!
4. If the gang knew how to hack into Gossip Girl all along, why didn't they do something about it sooner?
5. WHY? Why was everyone okay with Dan being Gossip Girl? I mean, he ruined their lives for 6 years…
6. And why wasn’t Dorota Gossip Girl??? That would have been EPIC!
7. Also, I get that they’re rich and famous, but how were they getting into bars at 16? Not to mention hooking up with people over 18…
8. But the biggest question of them all: Did the creators know who Gossip Girl was all along? IMO, I’m not sure that they did, but we’re hoping the new series might shed some light!
HBO Max is set to launch in the spring of 2020 and be the exclusive home of “Friends”, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “Pretty Little Liars”, and more.
That’s all for now. XOXO, Gossip Girl.
