Female-Led "XX" Series Will Be Your Next Horror Anthology Obsession!
Whether you love them or hate them, horror anthology series are having a moment right now. Audiences everywhere can’t get enough of these one-off stories of fear. These terrifying tales have been triumphant when it comes to ratings, critical acclaim, and even major television awards. Titles like "American Horror Story", "Castle Rock", "The Terror", and "The Twilight Zone" have solidified the popularity of the genre with fans. So it makes sense that everyone is trying to get in on the latest popular TV craze and create their own chapters of mayhem for the small screen. Now it seems the next anthology of horror to enter the fold will be based on the horror anthology film XX, where each story within the feature presentation was directed by female filmmakers.
The ladies are getting in on all the horror anthology action with
an "XX" TV series. The show will tell brand new tales of terror,
and, just like the film, all the episodes will be written and
directed by women. Each iteration will have its own chilling story,
much like Netflix’s "Black Mirror" series, according to producer Jovanka Vuckovic, who was also one of the
directors featured in the XX film. She describes the
upcoming series as a thinking person’s horror, that being a feminist thinking person’s horror. The "XX" series will
undoubtedly bring something different to the table in the horror
anthology game and provide some talented creators a chance to tell
some horrifying stuff.
This female-driven anthology is still in early development and
still needs to find a home. Vuckovic and fellow producers Todd Brown and Raquelle David won't have that hard of a job finding one, given the format and the
source. And there will be a lot of options to choose from, as the
streaming choices continue to increase. From Netflix and Shudder to
AMC and EPIX, when an idea is this good, it's hard to imagine
someone not picking up this tantalizing nightmare. I’ve always been
a firm believer that you can never have too many horror shows. So
when "XX" finally makes its way to the small screen, I’ll be there
ready to enjoy all the fear it has to offer. If you like
nightmare-inducing TV, then keep your eyes peeled for the "XX"
series whenever and wherever it inevitably releases.
