Just last week, we got our first full look into the dark, stunning world of Luca Guadagnino and Timothée Chalamet’s latest collab, Bones and All. This film marks the return of the director-actor duo since Call Me By Your Name released in 2017. Based on the trailer, Guadagnino and Chalamet have undoubtedly created another beautiful film focusing on young romance -- but this time, the love story and plot seem to take a much darker, murderous turn!

As we previously reported, Bones and All had its world premiere at the 79th Venice Film Festival, where Guadagnino and the film’s leading lady, Taylor Russell, took home awards for Best Director and Best Young Actress, respectively. Lucky for us, the film is releasing in theaters November 23, and we cannot wait — so here’s what we know!

The film is an adaptation from the 2015 young-adult horror novel of the same name by author Camille DeAngelis and follows the dark story of Maren Yearly (Russell), who, after moving to a new town, meets Lee (Chalamet), a runaway teen. From this point on, they fall in love in their own dark and mysterious way.

The official trailer opens with what looks like a normal romance between two young teens, with loving looks between Russell and Chalamet and the backdrop of a lively Summer day at a swimming hole. But the trailer soon cuts to images of bloodied hands and Chalamet violently wielding a crowbar, showing off that darker aspect of the film. With that said, the trailer still has a balance of romantic shots mixed in with the horror, which is a genre of film that is rarely ever blended together!

MGM also recently released an extended theatrical trailer, giving us an even deeper look at what’s to come! In the extended trailer, we get more insight into a dark secret Maren’s holding — she has cannibalistic compulsions that drive her to the point of biting her own friend. With this incident, Maren is forced to leave town with her dad, leading her to Lee -- who she discovers is another “eater”, as the film calls it -- revealing she has the ability to “smell” him. Lee introduces Maren to a community of eaters, and tensions grow as Maren struggles to find the balance of accepting herself and not wanting to hurt others, a sentiment she expresses multiple times throughout the trailer. The film also stars Oscar winner Mark Rylance as Sully and Michael Stuhlbarg as Jake (both eaters), as well as André Holland as Frank Yearly and Chloë Sevigny as Janelle Yearly.

With both of these trailers out, make sure to watch and prepare yourself for all the gory romance that’s to come before the film’s theatrical release November 23!
