Beyoncé Channels Her Inner Lioness at the Wearable Art Gala!
Beyoncé and her mini-me, Blue Ivy, served looks in their fierce lioness-themed costumes at the 2019 Wearable Art Gala.
If there’s one thing we can agree on, it’s that Beyoncé is extra af, and we couldn’t love her any more for it! At this year’s annual Wearable Art Gala, she didn’t hesitate to go all out, dripping from head to toe in gold sequins and extravagant feathers.
Guests were encouraged to summon their inner beasts in accordance with this year’s theme, “A Journey to The Pride Lands”, which was inspired by the upcoming The Lion King remake. As you know, Queen Bey is the voice behind Nala, the lioness cub and Simba's future queen, in the upcoming film, so it was no surprise when Beyoncé showed up channeling her inner sassy feline.
What DID surprise us was the extent of detail and powerful imagery in her ensemble. She slayed the red carpet sporting the face of the Queen of the Jungle on her bodice. Her extravagant cape and regal feathers reaffirmed one truth: Beyoncé is royalty.
The singer shared photos of her costume on Instagram along with an adorable video of her 7-year-old daughter Blue Ivy enthusiastically singing along to “Circle of Life”. The younger Princess was dressed in a yellow gown and colorful headdress.
The new Lion King remake is scheduled to hit theaters on July 19, which marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. Check out this teaser trailer featuring Beyoncé’s voice as “Nala”!
Other fierce fashions of the Gala were provided by the likes of Tiffany Haddish, Saweetie, "Black-ish" star Marsai Martin, Chloe x Halle, and Black Panther's Daniel Kaluuya, as well as Beyoncé's mom and stepdad (and hosts of the event), Tina Knowles-Lawson and Richard Lawson, and her former Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams!
Proceeds for the Gala benefit the WACO Theater Center in North Hollywood, as well as Tina's Angels, Richard's Warriors, and the Mobile Arts Theater. Beyoncé herself is an honorary chairperson of the Gala, and the night's events included honoring filmmaker Tyler Perry with a Trailblazer Award.
