Alanis Morissette Exec Producing TV Sitcom Based On Her Life!

In the grand tradition of “Everybody Hates Chris” (Chris Rock), “The Goldbergs” (Adam Goldberg), and “Young Rock” (Dwayne Johnson), the latest celebrity using their own life as the basis for a single-camera TV sitcom will be – Alanis Morissette!

Unlike those aforementioned shows, though, which take place when the celeb in question was a kid, ABC's “Relatable” will be focusing on Alanis’s life now, as a wife and mother in her 40s who was once an international rock star back in her younger days. You know… relatable!

In all seriousness, though, the description of the series makes it seems like this character based on Alanis is past her prime in the music scene, which is the one big way in which this show strays from reality. I attended one of Alanis’s concerts at the Hollywood Bowl last month, and I can tell you with 1000% certainty that she is just as on top of her game as she was 25 years ago when Jagged Little Pill changed our lives forever. So, there’s that.

As it is, though, it appears this show will focus more on Alanis’s more domestic side as a mom of three, a woman who was once considered “the voice of a generation” now struggling to get her own children to listen to her. Kids today, amirite?!

Alanis will serve as Executive Producer, of course, but there is no indication that she herself will be taking on the role of… herself. I can’t see why not, though – she has the acting chops, and it’s something to do now that her tour is over. She’ll also be providing original music for the show, so that’s definitely something to look forward to as well!

And speaking of “The Goldbergs”, writer/producer Elizabeth Beckwith serves as co-creator along with showrunner Christopher Moynihan.

This series comes on the heels of Alanis expressing her disapproval of the upcoming HBO documentary Jagged, which she claims is “not the story I agreed to tell”. Here’s hoping she is happier with what Beckwith and Moynihan come up with!

Stay tuned!
