7 Things to Do if You're Riding Solo on Valentine's Day!

Written by Amanda Baltazar. Published: February 13 2015

It’s that time of the year again. Everyone is coupling up and planning on watching Fifty Shades of Grey with their significant other.

Valentine’s Day, AKA Single’s Awareness Day.

Almost everyone has an opinion about February 14, whether they love it or hate it. We are surrounded by red and pink hearts and flowers, and that’s all fine and dandy when you’re in a couple. But why do you have to be in a couple? Who says you have to have a boo thang on V Day? Why can’t you celebrate as a single??

The answer is YOU CAN.

Whether you’re single by choice or not, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be bad, you just have to know how to make the best of it!

Oh and for all you couples out there, no hate! I didn’t forget about you! Y’all can transfer over to our fun Valentine’s Day date ideas list here!

There are plenty of things to do for singles on Valentine’s Day, and here are a couple suggestions if you find yourself void of plans.

Throw a party!

Call it an Anti-Valentine’s Day if you will, but everyone is always looking for a reason to have fun and turn up. So, go grab some drinks and snacks and have some people over, singles AND couples (who probably waited last minute to plan something and couldn’t get a reservation)!

Go out!

Guess what? The world doesn’t stop on Valentine’s Day; there are shows, concerts, and plenty of other things going on. There’s even an event called Cupid’s Undie Run that raises money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

Go find someone to (un)celebrate with!

As much as it may feel like it, you’re not the only single one on Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for someone to spend the day with, hit up a club or bar or anywhere you want to go! Or Tinder is always an option, if that’s what you’re into...

Get some work done!

Use the day to finish up one of your projects or even start a new one! You can use the day to be productive and/or creative.

Serve the community.

Do some volunteer work. Some people don’t have the luxury to celebrate Valentine’s Day at all. Help out at a shelter or visit a senior living home. Send out some love on Valentine’s Day. No one said it had to be with a significant other!

Spread some love!

Go out and buy a dozen roses and go to work, or school, or a park. Go to any public place and just pass out the roses. You never know whose day you’ll make with a random act of kindness.

Relax.

This may be an easy one to miss, but take the time to love yourself. Have a nice dinner, make a bubble bath, and take a nap! Whatever makes you feel relaxed and at ease. I know a night in with Netflix is something I will never turn down.

So, whether you’re coupled up or single, enjoy yourself and do what makes you happy! I mean, check out how Dwight celebrates Valentine’s Day:

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
