5 Odd Couple Movies We Need!

Written by Andi Ortiz. Published: December 02 2020

Brace yourself -- Han Solo and Andy Bernard are teaming up.

Well, in a manner of speaking at least. While the two characters will never meet on-screen, their real-life counterparts will. Harrison Ford and Ed Helms are teaming up for a new comedy from STX titled The Miserable Adventures of Burt Squire Aboard the Horn High Yo. According to EW, the story follows “a family man (Helms) in the midst of a midlife crisis who embarks on a would-be dream sailing vacation that ends in a shipwreck disaster at the hands of a charmingly unhinged captain (Ford).”

Honestly, you can count us in any time Harrison Ford is playing any version of “charming” and “unhinged”.

Even so, it’s a surprising pairing, but one that has immense potential. And it got us thinking – what other unexpected duos would work well on-screen? Here’s a few ideas!

1. Kristen Stewart & Julie Andrews

Aside from voice work in animated films, Julie Andrews hasn’t been on our screens much in the last few years. It’s understandable, but it’s also a bit of a travesty. So, if we could humbly request just one live action film from her in 2021, let it be a team-up with Kristen Stewart. Why? It’s hard to define a clear reason. But it just feels right, doesn’t it? We already know Julie Andrews can do the cool grandma role, so let’s give it another go with Kristen Stewart as her granddaughter this time. Road trip film, anyone?

2. Morgan Freeman & Kate McKinnon

Morgan Freeman may be most known for his serious roles and his voiceovers, but he is more than capable of being an on-screen funny man. And after 2020, we could all use some funny films in theaters. Put Freeman alongside Kate McKinnon and the comedy potential is boundless. With these two, a buddy cop film just feels so right. Or, maybe unlikely superheroes. You know what? Both are good. We’ll take both.

3. Emma Stone & Meryl Streep

Once upon a time, both Meryl Streep and Emma Stone were attached to star in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Unfortunately, because of promotional obligations for her film The Favourite, Stone had to drop the project and Emma Watson stepped in. But now we can’t stop imagining what the on-screen chemistry of Emma Stone and Meryl Streep would be like. Stone is a well-established Streep superfan – aren’t we all? – and the excitement would undoubtedly jump off the screen.

4. Anna Kendrick & Jim Carrey

With Jim Carrey and Anna Kendrick, the possibilities are virtually endless. They can do comedy, they can do drama, they can do dramedy! Make them father and daughter, uncle and niece, bar buddies, it doesn’t really matter, it will all WORK.

5. Adam DeVine & Julia Roberts

Much like Jim Carrey and Anna Kendrick, Julia Roberts and Adam DeVine can just about do it all. And at some point, they should be given the chance to do it together. With these two, a sibling comedy could work. There’s a bit of an age difference, yes, but that could just make it all the better.

What unlikely pairings would YOU like to see on screen?!
