5 New Albums & Singles To Listen To This Weekend!

Written by Emily Holshouser. Published: January 24 2020

We are not even a full month into 2020 and there is already some seriously good music floating around -- too much to catch by yourself!

We’ve selected some of the best albums and singles from the past couple weeks, just for you, because we don’t want you to be left without some bops!

From Mac Miller to blackbear, there is already some amazing stuff to listen to this year. Put your headphones in, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, and take a listen to these new beats.

1. Mac Miller, Circles

The rapper’s first posthumous album has been released by his estate, and it is a bittersweet, melancholic reminder of Miller’s talent and ambition that was gone all too soon.

Miller muses about his past and his future "on the other side" with producer Jon Brion putting together the pieces he left behind to create a masterful work of art. On “Good News”, a highlight of the large album, he softly says, “I spent the whole day in my head, doing some spring cleaning.”

This weekend, take a listen and do some spring cleaning of your own. Please take care of yourselves out there.

2. Soccer Mommy, circle the drain

Soccer Mommy’s music, a mix between fierce alt-rock and vulnerable singer-songwriter tendencies, feels like a 2AM drive through your hometown.

“Circle the drain,” the debut single off her album color theory to be released February 28, is a heartwrenching story hidden in her signature electric guitar and clean voice. “Things feel that low sometimes, even when I’m just fine,” she sings, ruminating on our desire to hide our anxieties to even those we love most.

3. blackbear, “me & ur ghost”

We aren’t done with the emo jams yet!

Blackbear’s “me & ur ghost” is a funky, boppin’ groove with some real depressing lyrics. “I’m not alone, it’s just me and your ghost, and this cripplin’ depression, thought I learned my lesson,” a lyric that feels a little too true sometimes, but hey, at least this one is GROOVY.

4. Jonas Brothers, “What A Man Gotta Do”

OKAY, emo time is over, ‘cuz the Jo Bros have ENTERED THE BUILDING.

Not only is this an infectious, CATCHY song, but the music video is also too pure for this world. Featuring the brothers’ wives in adorable little classic movie vignettes, this jam is enough to make me want to go up to the first man I see on the street and ask him if he wants to just get married so we can re-enact this video.

We promise that if you’ve had enough of that sad stuff, this song is sure to get you dancing!

5. Lauv, ~how i’m feeling~

Lauv’s new album is a beautiful little treasure trove of intimacy, loneliness, and youth.

“Tattoos Together” is a tale of adventurous risks with a newfound crush -- a life I cannot relate to but MAN, after this song, I kind of want to find a stranger and get a tattoo with them? Lauv makes being young and dumb and emo sound so much fun.

Catchy samples, great beats, and the terrifying sensation of liking someone are all hallmarks of this delightful album.
