5 Cozy & Magical Novels To Get You Into The Autumn Mood!

Written by Ava Alexander. Published: October 24 2024

As the weather gets colder, the urge to curl up next to a fire (or a bunch of candles, as the case may be) with a cozy fantasy novel becomes greater and greater. Wind and falling leaves can make you feel that magic is in the air, and these books will make you believe the magic is real! As October comes to a close, it’s important to consume as much witchy content as possible. If that is what you’re looking for, look no further than the list below!

1. A Demon’s Guide to Wooing a Witch by Sarah Hawley

This is a witchy tale set in the modern day in a fictional New England town that is host to all sorts of fantasy creatures. It’s a romance novel about a hundreds of years-old demon who loses his memories, learning morals and how to love from a stubborn witch clad in workout gear. This is a perfect mix of fantasy and contemporary romance, with a setting reminiscent of Stars Hollow from "Gilmore Girls".

2. The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton

This novel includes floating houses that double as pirate ships and is set in the Regency Era. In this unique fantasy, the man hired to assassinate our feisty main character might just fall in love with her. If you’re a fan of "Bridgerton" or "My Lady Jane", this is the book for you.

3. The House in The Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

You may have seen this book on BookTok, where it is very popular and highly recommended. It is a supernatural road trip thriller perfect for Fall. Witty, funny, and heartwarming, this is perfect for all the magic lovers out there and fans of the found family trope.

4. The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

This book follows three witch siblings throughout their life, a lot of the story being based in a cottage where they learn witchcraft. The cozy vibes shine through even in this emotional and reflective story, which may even elicit a few tears. It’s a prequel to Practical Magic, but you don't need any prior knowledge of that story to thoroughly enjoy this masterpiece.

5. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

This is another one that you may have seen recommended on BookTok. It is a cozy romance fantasy about two rivals-to-lovers working on a newspaper together. Reading this book will fill your room with the aroma of ink and coffee-stained paper. The atmosphere Ross creates is palpable and is exactly the kind of fantasy world you want to escape into during Fall.

Happy reading!
