5 Animated Films To Look Forward To This Year!
It’s 2020, which not only means a new year and decade, but tons of new movies and shows being released!
This year is projected to have some great flicks come out, including some animated ones! Whether you have grown out of them or not, the lead characters in some of the upcoming animated movies may stir up some nostalgia for you!
Without further ado, here are some exciting animated films releasing in 2020:
1. Scoob! (May 15)
This isn’t your “classic” Scooby-Doo film in terms of plot and appearance.
It’s 2020, which means the animation quality of good ol' Scoob is top-tier and polished compared to the still enjoyable but dated animations from the past.
And yes, the plot does include a prototypical terrorizing monster (it wouldn’t be a Scooby-Doo film without one). Here’s the catch, however -- this film also explains something that many seasoned Scooby fans have been waiting for, which is how the Mystery Inc. crew became the Mystery Inc. crew.
It’s about time! Better late than never that fans of the popular series finally receive a backstory on how a group of four kids and a dog met and have gone on to take down “monsters” double their size. It might just make this movie tempting to watch for older Scooby-Doo fans!
2. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (May 22)
You probably read this movie title and thought, "More nostalgia?!"
The crazy thing is, maybe two of your favorite childhood characters are hitting the big screen a week apart! Going off superior animation quality because it’s 2020, this SpongeBob film will be in released in a CGI-type edition.
This plot will see SpongeBob and his close buddy Patrick go on a massive journey to find Gary the Snail, who has been snatched. The duo heads to the Lost City of Atlantic City to try and find him.
And in similar fashion to Scoob!, this film will also show how SpongeBob and Gary became best buddies! I guess 2020 is all about tying up some loose ends!
3. Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe
Let’s keep the nostalgia rolling with the film version of a LONG-LASTING Disney show. Phineas and Ferb’s epic summer lasted from 2007-2015 (I wish it was like that for us).
Now, the two brothers head on out their biggest quest yet (which is literally out of this world) as they try to rescue their older sister Candace on another planet after she was taken by aliens!
This film, which is currently in production, will be the second based on this series, and is slated to be available on Disney+ only sometime this year.
4. Minions: The Rise of Gru (July 3)
Succeeding the 2015 Minions film, this sequel will follow the Minions once again a half-decade later -- although this installment is clearly a prequel to the Despicable Me movies!
The film’s plot revolves around he younger version of the “evil” Felonious Gru as he attempts to join the Vicious 6, a group of the most ruthless villains in the world. All while maintaining a beautiful head of hair!
Some of the voice actors for this film will include Kevin Hart, Margot Robbie, Steve Carrell, Danny Trejo, RZA, Lucy Lawless, Taraji P. Henson, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, among many others.
5. The Croods 2 (December 23)
The cave-loving Croods family will return after nearly a seven to eight-year gap!
The Croods 2 is scheduled to release at the end of the year, so not much info has been released as of yet. The plot will focus on the Croods dealing with another family called the Bettermans. In addition, Ryan Reynolds, Nicolas Cage, and Emma Stone will be among the voices returning for this sequel.
That’s not all, though!
2020 will also see the release of Bob’s Burgers: The Movie in the summer, along with live-action film versions featuring classic characters such as Clifford the Big Red Dog and Tom and Jerry. Stay tuned for all the nostalgia!
