4 Things We Learned From Billie Eilish's Doc 'The World’s A Little Blurry'!

Written by Tania Ortiz. Published: March 04 2021

Grammy Award-winning artist Billie Eilish's meteoric rise to fame started when she uploaded “Ocean Eyes” to Soundcloud in 2015, a song she wrote and recorded with her brother Finneas in their childhood home. Almost two years since she released her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, fans get a closer look at Eilish’s life as she grapples with fame and the creation of her award-winning album in a new documentary, The World’s A Little Blurry, directed by R.J. Cutler.

Here are four things we learned while watching The World’s A Little Blurry!

1. Billie used to dance when before her singing career took off

In the documentary, Billie opens up about the many injuries she’s faced since her career has taken off. She opens up about her past as a dancer—cutting to clips of her taking dance classes and performing—explaining that she had ruptured a growth plate on her hip, which forced her to have to step away from the activity.

2. Billie didn’t recognize Orlando Bloom at Coachella

When Eilish headlined Coachella in 2019, she bumped into Katy Perry, who introduced her to her fiancé. We all know him as Orlando Bloom, but at first glance, Billie did not register who the actor was until afterward. When she finally realized that Bloom played Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, she immediately said, “No way, bring him back. I want to meet him again. He kissed me on the cheek! I did not know that was him.”

3. Her friendship with Justin Bieber

As we learned when she visited the YH Studio in the early days of her stardom, Billie Eilish was a Belieber when she was younger and still is a massive fan of the Canadian singer. The World’s A Little Blurry chronicles when Justin Bieber himself first messaged Eilish days before her album dropped, leading to the “bad guy” remix to when they meet at Coachella, and afterward he sent her a sweet and inspiring message. Their friendship is also on display when Bieber FaceTimed Billie after her sweep at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

4. Billie is truly a creative genius

In the first half of the documentary, viewers get a chance to see the creative process behind When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. Eilish shows pages of her journal in which she explains that she drew out a song and discusses what visuals she wants for her album. The documentary also shows moments where she is directing her music videos and coming up with original ideas.
