Zombies invade UK premiere of Resident Evil: Retribution

Zombies invaded a sleepy English town on Thursday night (20Sep12) for the U.K. premiere of Hollywood horror movie Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment in the gory series.

Berwick-upon-Tweed played host to the zombie hordes in celebration of the film's director Paul W.S. Anderson, who hails from the north-east of England and who hopes to encourage more young moviemakers in the local area.

The picture was screened as part of the annual Berwick Film Festival, part-founded by Anderson's late father, Chris Anderson in 2005.

After his death, Anderson set up a Young Filmmaker Award in conjunction with the festival, which offers a cash prize to the winner as well as special awards from both Anderson and his model/actress wife, Milla Jovovich.

Anderson and Jovovich, who stars in the film, were unable to attend the event but they recorded a personal introduction to the film, shown to an audience who had previously enjoyed a zombie make-over and a walk up the fake blood-stained red carpet.

The director tells British newspaper The Independent, "I'm behind the award and behind the screening at Berwick to push this idea that you don't have to grow up in Hollywood and you don't even have to grow up in London and you don't have to know anyone in the film industry."
