Zac Efron forever grateful for High School Musical big break

Written by . Published: March 28 2013

Actor Zac Efron refuses to talk trash the show that made him a star - because producers gave him the "luckiest break in the world".

The 25-year-old hunk shot to fame after landing a lead role in the 2006 TV movie High School Musical, which went on to spawn a TV sequel and a feature film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

And Efron insists he will never bad-mouth the cheesy Disney franchise because he's forever grateful for the career opportunities the popular show gave him.

He tells Flaunt magazine, "Here's the one thing about High School Musical that a lot of people forget or don't realize. It affected a lot of people; its resonance, culturally, was massive... and at the same time, it was in every sense of it, the luckiest break in the world.

"The wrong thing to do - and that's what all these interviews now are trying to get me to say - is to turn on it, to like s**t on it, call it crap. But that's insane."

High School Musical also turned Efron's ex Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu into stars.
